So how do you get your baby to take regular / consistent naps when you've got an active, loud toddler?

DS is 20 weeks old and I'm struggling to get him into a routine of daytime naps. I try to get him to sleep before he gets overtired but he's so distractable that he's constantly waking. He has a 2 1/2 year old sister who is rather noisy (as toddlers are) which doesn't help with creating an environment conducive to sleep. He will sleep lightly on my lap when dd has her afternoon nap but she's trying to drop this. I've tried doing quiet activities and reading dd stories with dd whilst trying to get ds to nap but this doesn't help.
Any ideas / experience most gratefully received. Thanks

My DD is a bit older than yours, but from when she was 2.7 I would leave her downstairs watching peppa pig (her favourite) on tv whilst i took DS (now 29 weeks) upstairs to settle him for a nap in his cot. It keeps her occupied for 20mins which is just enough time. I don't think DS would nap either if DD was there playing. Is that an option for you?

Sometimes DS has his first nap (9am) before DD has even got up- she likes her lie-ins! Then DS usually has his second nap at 1.30 so i put DD down at 1 (she doesn't always sleep but will play in her room) and then take DS up for his nap.

spangly - I was wondering the same thing. DS2 is 6 weeks so we are nowhere near consistent naps yet but it is difficult getting him to sleep at all in the same house as DS1 who is going through a very annoying stage of screaming at the top of his voice just as the baby is dropping off to sleep - I will watch this thread for any tips!

Firststeps - they seem to know exactly the right moment to scream don't they

Pulapula - I envy you a dd who likes lie ins dd loves the telly but it's taking so long to get ds down for a nap (and then he wakes 20 mins later) that she often gets bored and comes to find us. I will persevere though
