How long should a 6 week old sleep for?

Not trying to get into a routine or anything yet but was just wondering how long a 6 week old should sleep for between feeds overnight? Although it’s often 2-4 hr which seems fine occasionally she will sleep for longer like 5-6 hrs and recently had a few sleepy periods where she still needed to be woken for feeds (connected to a growth spurt?). Should I continue to wake her if she sleeps longer than a certain time overnight or is it safe to leave her to sleep? I like to set an alarm for myself to check on her as sometimes I only wake once she’s screaming for food (if I’m in a deep sleep) and prefer to get to her before this point. She is combination fed but mostly bottles overnight.

maybe 8 hours?

Assuming born to term and not early and he’s putting on weight well then I think you’re fine to let him sleep now. No need to worry, just feed on demand. Great he’s going such long stretches. Don’t expect the length he sleeps for to increase in a linear fashion as he gets older, it’s all ups and downs in the first year. Few steps forward, few steps back.

As long as there are no health or weight issues then I would let her sleep as long as she wants. One of mine slept through from 6 weeks old so was going around 8-9 hours.

Sounds pretty normal to me, and assuming she was term and healthy no need to wake her for feeds.

Just a heads up though, just as you get used to it things will change again and you'll be up every hour or whatever 🙈 it's all normal and they all get there in the end

You don’t need to wake for feeds unless there are weight gain issues. Mine both did 7-8 hours overnight at that age.

Thanks all for the advice! I guess my anxiety is partly a hangover from the first few weeks where she was very sleepy and we had to wake her for feeds. She was born at 38 weeks at almost 7 lbs and has been gaining weight fine with a mix of breastfeeding and formula (she had tongue tie to start with and we didn’t manage to establish breastfeeding well so we have been combination feeding from the start).
