Baby grunting during night

My 5 week old feeds really well. Winds after a feed. Change of nappy. Little too yo feed (sometimes) and then goes down again. What I have found during the night is that we do all of the above but the minute she's put back in the next to me, she starts grunting for ages. Sometimes goes on nearly an hour.

I initially thought she hadn't winded properly so would try again, but it's now become common place for the middle of the night feed(s). After 30-60mins she will fall asleep but it means a 30 min or so wake up (for me) becomes anything up to 90 mins.

Any suggestions?!

My lo used to grunt a lot she grew out of it. It was her norm.

Most babies do grunt whilst young.

Move her to her own room? I moved mine at two and four weeks as the grunting kept everyone up and they're both fab sleepers now

Omg please do not move a 5 week old baby to their own room. The grunting is a phase and will settle down in time. It's normal, but can be very noisy!

I second this. It doesn’t last long and they’re safer in with you.

In my experience the grunting is completely normal. Like sharing the room with a little pig. You get used to it and / or you’re too tired to be disturbed by it. Agree a 5 week old is better off with you so please try to keep her with you. Maybe white noise or something would help you tune it out.

My DS did this, 8 weeks today and still does it but less often now so I think they do grow out of it.

I was on here looking it up as I was convinced he was broken

We had a grunter! Felt like I was sleeping with a wolf animal. People don't tell you that some babies make weird noises all night! Pink noise helped drown it out. Ours stopped the animal sounds around 10/12 weeks

Mine does this. She's 3 weeks old.
It is cute but sometimes keeps me awake. I was wondering myself if this was normal so glad to see others responses!

I meant wild animal. Eventually I could ignore the benign grunting and only responded to actual crying / awareness. She was sleeping during the grunting
