Holidays & Naps

LO 10m currently has 2x naps per day of about 1hr 20 each,
2nd nap is sometimes 2hrs. Naps are roughly 9am and 1.30pm.

All his naps are in his cot in his black out room with white noise and sleeping bag. He will sleep in the car/pram but only for one sleep cycle (30 mins) and needs to be kept moving.

His cot naps work really well for us most of the time however we are going to Cornwall next month and I’m wondering what others do in this situation? Ideally I’d like him to have both naps at our cottage as then we get a real break but it then makes going out difficult. Or do we just do a morning and an afternoon outing?

I guess gone are the days we would sit on the beach all day anyway but I cannot see a situation where he would fall asleep on the beach and have his nap there.

*Sorry if this sounds silly. I’m a FTM and have never had any luck getting him to nap well on the go or out of his cot.

No more difficult than it is at home I guess. What have you got planned that would take you out all day every day?
I’d say have one nap in the cottage and one while out and about - so in the pram. If one of the naps is only short will it matter that much?
Also if it’s a month away - napping habits can change drastically in the the space of a month. I think my DS was only on one afternoon nap by 10 or 11 months. You may only have one nap to deal with by then. Or it might be a good time to try and drop the morning nap while you’re there, new scenery and routines may turn it all upside down anyway. Holidays have their own routines in my experience, I wouldn’t worry too much about trying to replicate what goes on at home.

We went on holiday about the same age as your lo. We did one naps, and yes she got overtired and she sleeps in same environment as your lo. We just went with the fallout of being overtired tbh.

A tip for on the move naps which I think in your situation I would try now until you go on holiday to get lo used to it perhaps? The first nap try and get the to sleep in the buggy on the go. You get get these sun covers that pretty much clip all over the buggy and make it quite dark, also buy a portable white noise machine if you don't have one already to clip on the buggy so it can help imitate what you do currently.

I think if I went on holiday now, I would do first nap on the go. Have breakfast then be out the door go and have a good morning out. Lo has a nap on the go. Then come back perhaps after you had an earlier lunch, then pop down for afternoon nap. When lo wakes you can always go out for a walk along the beach for example and then go for dinner then be back for bedtime?

Have a lovely holiday- when you go away make sure you take some black out blinds incase room not dark enough.
