When to drop the daytime nap? (DS 22 Months)

DS either stays awake then is grumpy around 4pm and either falls asleep on the sofa or floor and then is too tired to eat dinner, or goes for a nap and stays up until as late as 10pm. He climbs out of his bedside cot unless you stay in there until he falls asleep, but sometimes he just bounces in his cot for over an hour so I just let him get back up. I really don't know if I should just keep going with the flow until he is totally ready to stay up all day, or let him nap and wake him after about 45 mins (any longer and he will be wide awake until very late again), or try my best to keep him up as long as possible even if he is getting grumpy. TIA x

Think that a shorter nap is a good idea. Give it a try for a few days and see what happens. I think if keeping him awake all day means he is too tired to eat dinner then he's not quite ready to go without a nap completely.

My DD dropped her regular nap at around 18 months, then we had a couple of months of irregular naps every few days, falling asleep at weird times, then eventually she would go without a nap at all.

it was a PITA but we got there in the end!

ds2 (23mo) usually has a couple of hours 1pm-3pm.
ds1 had about an hour at the same age and dropped it completely by 27mo.
Friends kids napped until 4, and later. Others gave it up around 12mo.

Not sure what time yoy try and get him to have a nap - would it be worthwhile trying any earlier?

DS is 23 months, and normally has an hour 1-2 today he didn't have anything thou and was ok (but then again had poppy keeping him busy - was grumpy around tea but ate his dinner)

re the jumping etc - I do sometimes bring DS back down with his nap but theat's few/far between.

I think i'd go with giving him an hour and see how that goes.
