Sleeping on front at 6 months

Hi, just after reassurance kind mumsnetters... my DS is 6 months, he can roll fully front to back, back to front. I know it's ok if they roll onto their front in the night but the safe sleep guidance is to put them to sleep on their back. My DS hasn't read these rules as he flips himself over the second I put him in the cot and settles himself on his front. He'll be ok won't he? If I roll him to his back all he'll breaks loose! Grin

My now 3YO slept on her front from around 6mo and still does now. I've figured she probably does it to help her stomach feel at ease as she has chronic constipation

DS did this from 5 months, in his stomach with his bum int air. I was also worried after all the focus on sleeping on their back but he was fine.

Several years down the line and he still sleeps like this now and the minute he's in bed he's on his front with his bum in the air normally being voluntarily almost suffocated by his stuffed toy collection. 😅

Mine did and they slept better

My lo always liked her front even as newborn (which I never did allow always on back) she's a belly sleeper now and has been since 5 months. If they do it themselves I leave them to it

If he can roll himself and he's more comfortable, then let him!

DD would only ever sleep on front with bum in the air. Not very good for showing off baby in pram but she was happy and always slept well.

DD rolled over from about 10 weeks. I tried one of the things to stop her rolling over and she just shuffled down the cot, out of the thing stopping her from rolling over and then rolled over. I figured if she could do that she was probably fine. I always put her down on her front though - think it was all just a big game to her!

Thanks everyone. He's definitely so much happier on his front as he settles himself rather than screaming and fighting sleep!

He's fine - ours did this too. They just need to be able to roll themselves there independently (not necessarily back again) as this indicates their neck muscles are strong enough. I would put ours on her back and she'd flip over within 5 seconds 😂 as a silver lining - she has slept much better since she was able to shift on to her front!

@MGee123 yes, I can't believe how well he's sleeping! Will stop worrying and just enjoy!!!
