5 week old baby only napping around 1-2 hours a day

My 5 week old baby (girl) isn’t napping a lot during the day, she will roughly have around 1-2 hours (usually if I am out with her) and maybe a 5-10 minute nap here and there, look on Google and it says 0-6 weeks should be sleeping 4-8 times a day with around 45-1hour time in between naps?

anyone else’s baby do this?

Yep, she's 9 weeks now and still the same no matter what we try. Completely healthy and happy, just wants to sleep at night and barely through the day. Currently sitting next to her trying to get her to drift off as we're trying to nap her four times a day regardless of how short they may be. Will hopefully make her less ratty on an evening.

Are you structuring her day so that naps are possible? For example a baby that young should only be awake and 'playing' around 20 minutes after feed/ burping. Then quick nappy change if needed, dim lights, swaddling and into pod/cot? Five weeks is a good age to get into routines and follow them.

Baby whisperer helped provide useful routines for me. Published a long time ago but still helpful.

Some babies just won't. My ds napped maybe 3 times a day for about 20-40 mins and each indoor nap required 45 mins of bring pushed up and down kitchen in his buggy. And god forbid if you made eye contact - that meant game over! He slept well ar nights (mostly). Even now at 12 years he still takes over an hour to switch his brain off at bedtime!

This made me laugh as I've just said to my DP "for god's sake don't make eye contact with her" 😄 we've only managed three short naps today. The process of getting her to sleep is longer than the actual nap time

Yep, mine. Unlike the pp, she doesn't sleep at night either 🤦‍♀️

Try following the advice above, because I sort of thought and hoped it would all sort itself out and now I have a non sleeping 6m old!
