Toddler Kicking Off Duvet - Advice Needed

Around 3 months ago we've transitioned our near 3 year old toddler from grobags to a duvet and he's sleeping well. But he's kicking off his duvet a lot which we notice on his camera. He doesn't wake.

When I go into his room after he's kicked off the duvet while he's asleep his legs are cold so just put the duvet back over but after a couple of hours he would of kicked it off again.

It's ok at the moment but worry when the weather gets colder he'll wake. So is there any tips or anything bought to help keep the duvet on?

Turn it sideways and tuck it under the mattress. It will still be long enough for him.

I transitioned mine to a duvet at 18 months when he started taking off his sleeping bag; if he kicks his duvet off I just leave him be, he covers himself back over if he needs to. In the colder months I just put him in fleecy pyjamas. He is 26 months old.

Ok great. Even long enough with a toddler duvet?

They’ll pull it back on when cold - my 2 year old did it last winter. It’s probably being kicked off because they are hot.

slumbersac and jojo maman Bebe both do bags with legs

with dc1 we bothered wigh putting them back into bed (sometimes fell out whilst sleeping) and putting blanlet on again....
your dc was a horrible sleeper, we didn't dare to disturb sleep by re-arranging them or the duvet

don't sweat it. they will learn at some point to stay under the duvet. make sure they wear adequately warm (or cool) night clothes.

Are you sure they are really cold? It is June and has been very warm here, my (much older) child is sleeping with just a sheet.

I would not worry unless they were waking from cold. They learn to put the covers on themselves if needed.

Leave him. Mine are both the same. My 4 year old will uncover and cover himself through the night. You can buy warmer pj's for the winter.

We used a standard single duvet turned sideways on a toddler bed, it almost fits perfectly

Possibly not. I changed to a single duvet on sideways.
My eldest wouldn’t cover himself up, he’d just wake up cold and grumpy where as my youngest will cover herself up and go back to sleep without shouting for me.

We used the 'footie' sleeping bags for a while, around 18mo -2.5 yes. Tommee tippee ones are good.

Flowerymess · 01/07/2022 14:10

I wouldn't worry about it. Put him in warmer pyjamas if you think you need to. But in a few weeks he'll learn how to cover himself anyway.

SnackSizeRaisin · 03/07/2022 12:33

At nearly 3 he can manage his own duvet. I wouldn't intervene. He's got the summer to perfect his skills before it gets cold.
