Side sleeping at 20 weeks

DC is 20 weeks old and over the past few nights has taken to side-sleeping. They can roll front to back, back to front and all the way round (eg front to back to front again). I try putting them down on their back every night-time feed and nappy check, but within seconds they're on their side. Any repositioning attempts by me only last a few seconds. DC is a very active baby both awake and asleep, they just don't seem comfortable sleeping on their back any more...

I know the rule is to put babies to sleep on their backs but the only way to get DC to stay in that position is to hold them!

It may just be the midnight sleep deprivation tslking but I'm quite worried about the potential risks of not sleeping on their back. I've been trying to stay awake for a good chunk of the night to keep an eye on DC. I'm exhausted though and it's not sustainable longer-term.

Do I need to just caffeine up and stay awake? Is it ok for DC to sleep like that? They're otherwise quite a good sleeper.

Once they can roll, no need to worry. Just make sure cot is clear, nothing they could get tangled up in or caught between.

I was always told that once they can roll, it’s safe for them to sleep in any position. 3/3 of mine ended up being tummy sleepers. I’d always put them into their cribs on their backs. They’d look at me sleepily and roll over straight away.

I think the general rule is that you put them down on their backs no matter what, but if they can roll by themselves, don't worry once they are down. Mine was exactly the same.

Thanks! I'll hopefully be able to get some rest tonight then.

Our little lad is the same. He's 21 weeks today. He can roll onto his front but isn't always managing to be able to roll back onto his back again. I'm the same worrying especially as at times he almost looks face down but he seems to like propping his head on his hand so his nose and mouth are actually clear. We have one of those owlet devices and checking the data his oxygen level is usually higher when he sleeps on his front than on his back despite how it looks the opposite to see the way he lays xx
