Pram/pushchair refuser…

I have a lovely 9 week old DD. Night time sleep is great compared with her older brother at that stage - she’s only up 1-2 times a night, breastfeeds to sleep then is put down in her cosleeper. Day time I’m struggling though! She will sometimes drop off in my arms, but mostly feeds to sleep. She mostly won’t tolerate being put down once asleep - wakes straight back up no matter how long you leave it. That’s fine most of the time when my son is at nursery but on days when he isn’t I want to be able to take him and her out to the park etc. Trouble is she will not currently fall asleep in her pram, and hasn’t done since about 2/3 weeks old. If she’s fallen asleep in the car she will occasionally stay asleep being transferred but usually is wide awake again. Yesterday we went out for the day and she got really overtired as she would only fall asleep feeding then woke up as soon as I tried to put her down in the pushchair. She would then be wide awake and not fall back asleep when on the move, until she’d eventually start crying from tiredness, but never go off to sleep. When she cries she gets super sweaty despite me dressing her lightly for the weather, which I think is part of the problem.

My son was a winter baby so was wrapped up in blankets and snow suits which helped him feel secure in his pram from the start. So he loved sleeping in it and we walked miles and miles with him.

So, any tips for getting her to fall asleep in the pushchair/pram? We have a snoozeshade, a Rock-It, and I can use white noise on Ewan the dream sheep. Or any stories of other newborns getting used to their pushchair when older - when and how?

Also I can’t wear a sling/carrier unfortunately, my pelvis and pelvic floor aren’t up to it, otherwise I would! Thanks in advance for any help!

PS she’s a dummy refuser too…projectile vomits when I try it…

Is she refluxy?

Have you tried using the seat rather than the pram part? I know they should lie flat but my second wouldn’t go in the pram so from very small she was partly sat up in the pushchair seat. Then I got a double and although it could lie flat she preferred a slight incline. It worked and she slept. She’s now two and no ill effects on her.

Sounds like my first. I put her on a (strapped in) angle from about two months as any transition her to lying flat or attempt to get her to sleep on the flat was totally impossible. Turned out she had silent reflux.

Thanks for the suggestions - don’t think she’s got reflux or silent reflux as she’s a very contented baby for the most part, not very sicky at all usually (except when trying the dummy/calpol after jabs/thrush medication - anything that’s not a boob basically). Plus she sleeps flat on her back at night in her co sleeper, and/or co sleeping in bed with me in the day (I feed her to sleep and attempt to roll away with moderate success rates) and loves lying on her playmat so I don’t think it’s being on her back necessarily. I tried the seat unit yesterday for the first time as I thought she might prefer being “held” instead of rolling about in the bassinet - she was happier in it when propped up a little and looking about but the lowest incline that’s not lying flat is just a bit steep for her at this age/size, she didn’t look like she suited it yet. I think she will prefer it in the future so I’ll try it again a few times. Really hoping she’s got used to it by summer holidays when we go away and my son isn’t at nursery for 6 weeks!

If she falls asleep in the car then I’d try the car seat on the pram frame, I know newborns aren’t supposed to stay in them too long but you can do 45 minutes.

Update - I tried the baby jogger city mini gt pushchair which I bought 2nd hand when my rather tall son outgrew the ocarro. It lies flat but can be adjusted using a strap rather than clicking into preset heights like the ocarro, so I could put it on just a very slight incline. Add some ocean waves on the white noise app and she’s fallen asleep in it two days running now! Thanks for the help!
