Newborn sleeping on chest

I have a 1 week old baby who is currently only accepting to sleep on my chest. He was diagnosed with tongue tie, and this causes him with latching both breast and bottle. As a result he is an extremely windy baby with colic. Currently I have managed to settle him on my chest after 2 hours of constant screaming. I think the only position comfortable for him is on his belly - he starts go scream straight after putting him down in the cot. Did anyone else have the same issue? And what did you do?

My first was like that. Only comfortable with pressure on her front (so face down). Once she could roll she just rolled onto her stomach all the time.

Hopefully some one will be along soon with more help as I didn't really experience this. However, a sling could be your saving grace during the day as your baby can be upright, on your chest so close to you for hours and your hands are free. I didn't have a sling for my first, but do for my second and 9 times out of 10 he is asleep by the time I click the last buckle....strongly recommend.

Good luck and remember nothing is forever.

You could try walking him around in the tiger hold, which puts pressure on the belly and is quite soothing - helped my windy newborn. He might drift off in that position, or might not, but it could soothe him enough for you to be able to settle him on his back.

Congratulations on your new arrival..!

My refluxy baby used to fall asleep like this. I could usually then manoeuvre her to her side in a co-sleeping position - she would be down facing my breast and I would face her on my side with my arm stretched above my head, no pillows, covers only to my waist. I had no intention of co-sleeping but she wouldn't sleep any other way and I thought it was safer to have her like this rather than sleeping with her on my chest.

Are you getting the tongue tie snipped? That also helps.

Yes also laying on my arm think the pressure on tummy helps them feel more comfortable. Keep an eye out for colic or reflux.
