Baby sleeps a lot

I don’t want to be one of ‘those’ people I’m sorry! But I’m just wondering if this is relatively normal/ to be expected.

my DD is 10 weeks old and for the last couple of weeks has suddenly started treating us to 9-10 hour stretches at night… with no wake for a feed. She sleeps from around 11pm - 8am and still seems perfectly content in the morning too, definitely hungry when I feed her but she doesn’t even seem to fuss for it. Then around an hour after she’s woken up, she goes back to sleep for a 3 hour nap! It’s been happening every morning for the last couple of weeks like clockwork. For the rest of the day then she’ll do two or three more naps of 30 mins - 1 hour. A lot of the time these days I’m twiddling my thumbs thinking of what to do!

I do apologise as I know this is an ideal situation and many people will want to be in it, I feel very lucky and I’m aware it will probably change at some point! But does this sound okay? To sleep such long stretches at night and also nap for a long stretch in the day too? It’s mad we’re desperate for them to sleep and then panic when they do. She takes full feeds (exclusively breastfed) and lots of wet and dirty nappies and alert/ interested when she’s awake.

If she's alert when awake, feeding well, putting on weight appropriately and wetting/dirtying lots of nappies, then she's almost certainly fine.

Soak it up, because baby sleep isn't linear and you might find it changes as she gets older.

Some babies do just sleep lots.

honeyhoney2 our 9 week old has nights like this too and I get worried as in our case he sleeps so much of the day too! He’ll have 3-5 hour naps and I feel we hardly see him. The health visitor thinks we ought to see the paediatrician but like you ours is feeding brilliantly (often while asleep) and has plenty of wet and dirty nappies.

im sure it’s normal and healthy for some babies , I just can’t help wondering if ours is ok as I think he sleeps even more than yours and our others weren’t like this at all!

As long as you said feeding well, plenty of wet nd dirty nappies. Lo is alert and awake and doesn't seem unwell or not thriving. I would say enjoy it. As someone said sleep is not permanent and could change at any time....... I'm muttering enviously right now 😆 🤣

Both of mine slept through 9/10 hours by around this age! Like PP said, as long as they're thriving and alert/wetting nappies then don't worry!

DS hit the 4 month 'regression' and went back over for a good few weeks then settled again and DD didn't change and still loves her sleep and a good lie in now and she's 2! Not so great when We have to wake her to be washed/dressed and fed ready for the school run!

Both Bf too, I don't know if that makes a difference at all but I expected a lot more wakes for milk!

Just enjoy it and use that time to give yourself some me-time/time with your DP. 😍

DC1 was like that. It caused me, an overly anxious first time mother, so much worry. It didn’t change and DC1 continued to have the perfect sleep routine from a couple of months and now, a preteen, still needs a lot of sleep.

DC2 gave us a huge shock by never sleeping.

Enjoy your baby. From my experience with DC1, your baby will thrive on routines and be a content little one.

My baby is 3 months now and first slept through at 11 weeks! She's healthy and growing. I say enjoy it (although I obviously don't know your individual baby so if in doubt ask a professional).
