Bilateral Talipes brace - sleep help!

Our little man (10m) was born with bilateral talipes so has had full leg casts for the first 9 weeks of his life, tenotomy op, boots and Dobbs bar brace full time for 3 months and now wears it overnight until he's 5.

We've always had a semi ok time with sleep - not great but not the worst of my friends. However, I'd like him to be sleeping through as I'll start work soon and I know he can do it.

A good night is: Sleep at 7pm, wakes up for his dummy 11pmish, 2-3am wake up and has a bottle, 5-6am wake up.

An average/bad night he'll wake up several times more, mostly after the 11pm wake up.

When he wakes up he's definitely looking for comfort. Eg his dummy, bottle or cuddles soothes him.

He seems to be really frustrated with the boots and bar. He bangs them, cries, claws at them etc. He also gets quite hot, because he needs to wear the boots and socks so can't sweat through his feet properly as babies do. He can't move himself from front/back/side to get comfy either, so needs our help to do this.

If he doesn't have his boots on (rare, maybe three nights in total) he's slept right through.

Anyone have any suggestions with helping him sleep through? I feel like we're making excuses for him, but I'd be miserable trying to sleep in them too!

Thank you!

Don’t have much help to offer but our wee boy (14 months) has boots and bar too and we’ve also had a lot of sleep issues. We have him in a sleep bag to reduce banging and him being able to play with them. We just use thin socks rather than the thick ones provided and he’s never had any issues with blistering thankfully. He can turn over in his brace so could it be worth trying to show him how to do that?

Hello, I realise this is an old thread but did your little boy’s sleep ever improve? I’m in the same situation with my 9 month old boy, I could have written your post word for word! On a good night we’ll have two wake ups but those are rare, he’ll usually do a 2-3 hour initial stint before waking up almost hourly due to his boots. He sleeps better in bed with us but I try to do that as a last resort as we’re only in a double bed and I have bruises from being kicked in the chest/stomach by his boots. People tell me this is a phase/regression and it will get better but I honestly feel like his whole life has been a bad sleep phase! So please tell me it gets better…
