Toddler bed or Cot?

My son turned 2 in March and still sleeps in a cot. I have a 10 week old daughter and was thinking to move her into the cot when shes outgrown her next to me snuzpod in my room until shes old enough to be on her own.

My son hasnt learnt how to climb out of his cot yet so do I keep him in his cot as long as possible and buy a cot for my daughter or do I transition him into a toddler bed and put her in the cot instead?
They will be sharing a room when shes old enough as well.

Any tips or advice welcome!

Move your baby to the cot and get a toddler bed for the 2 year old.

Keep your son in the cot for as long as possible, get another cot for your daughter. Also, I'd question the safety of having two small children in a room together at night if the big one is able to move around/climb into the cot. I think the age gap will be too small for them to safely share for a few years.

Get a toddler cot bed. It's the size of a toddler bed but with bars. When he can climb out, take the bars off and the bed will last until he is 4 or so. Your daughter can use it after him. If they're going to be sharing a room, floor space for playing is at a premium so getting a single bed would reduce playing space. Also don't move your kid from a cot to a bed until you have to - there's no benefit to you and they'll be harder to get down for the night, coming in to you in the night etc. Don't cross that bridge until you come to it!

I got a nice John Lewis cot bed secondhand for £30, you just need a new mattress.

I'm planning to keep baby in with us even in full size cot until she is 1 and he'd be turning 3. We have a camera in there to watch them both.

We are working on hopefully moving to a bigger house in the next 18 months 🤞so she can have her own room as my husband works from home and uses bedroom 3 for his office as its tiny. Would barely fit a toddler bed in it and nothing else.

Thank you for your advice on him climbing in that was one of my concerns too.

Thank you. I was thinking this too. I dont want him running into us all night. Esp as he sleeps 12hrs a night atm.

@abbs1 a camera isn't going to help you overnight though, and a 3yr old definitely isn't old enough to be left unsupervised with access to a baby. I know I sound like a lunatic but a friend had their two littles in a room together - the 3yr old got out of bed and tried to climb into his brother's cot to give him a cuddle. He fell in and landed heavily on the baby who had several broken bones and was in hospital for over a week. Parents had a camera, but were asleep and didn't hear anything.

Oh gosh! That's awful! I will definitely be rethinking this!
So glad for mumsnet and getting other mummies advice on things.
