Teething pain keeping us up all night - help!

My 1 year old is teething again. This lot of teething has been going on for 2 weeks now. 1 lower tooth has cut through about 4 weeks ago. Had about 2 weeks of no pain and now the 2 upper and 1 lower is coming through. The poor girl is suffering.

I avoid giving her painkillers in the day and just use gels, powders or anbesol liquid but this just doesn’t work at night. For the first week I was giving her ibuprofen before bed as this would let her sleep. If I don’t give it her, she’s up every hour screaming and really unsettled. I just don’t know whether I should be giving her ibuprofen before bed until these teeth cut through or not? I have messaged my health visitor but not getting a reply because of bank holiday so just need some advice.

Or any other methods that have worked?
what did you do with your babies?

TIA

Our little one suffered with teething badly. Like yourselves ibuprofen or Calpol helped at night. Which is why we gave our kid this before bed and if he wakes up. Being mindful not to give too much and holding back in the day with gels.

I always had to alternate Calpol and nurofen for teething. Are you just giving one dose before bed, or a second dose in the night? Being in pain is awful, she will be glad of the relief and you will get some sleep!

For pain (including teething)
If you've given your child ibuprofen and they're still in pain 2 hours later, you could try giving paracetamol as well. If this works, you can alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen, giving only 1 medicine at a time. Do not give more than the maximum daily dose of either medicine.

@Wouldntitbenicetobeinyourshoes how long would you do this for? I just give it once before bed and usually she sleeps through. I think it helps her get in that deep sleep initially. If I don’t give it, she just becomes very upset and we have a very unsettled night all night.
her teething episodes last weeks so I’m just concerned about giving her medicine before bed for so long?

@Tambini87 how long would you do this for? My daughters teething episodes last weeks so just wondering how long is too long and what others did with their kids

I would continue to give it for as long as necessary. It's generally safe for long term use. Just make sure it's always given after food and obviously stick to the recommended dose. Have a look at the NHS page on it - search ibuprofen for children NHS.

Of course you should give her ibuprofen or paracetamol for pain. If you had toothache you'd take painkillers wouldn't you? It's not forever and it's completely safe in the correct doses
