Does this sound like colic to you?

Hi everyone. We have a 7 WO and the HV has mentioned a couple times now that it sounds like he has colic, but I'm not sure.

He has always been a grunty, gassy baby... For the first few weeks he seemed to grunt and strain all night long. He's not so bad now - he has a feed around 11.30pm, sleeps to around 4 for another feed, and then consistently sleeps peacefully for around 45 mins before having a grunting episode. Because this starts so close to wake up time (7am), I’m getting really worried about the quality of his sleep, and whether he gets enough. He’s also starting to fight sleep a bit more through the day, now that he’s a bit more engaged with his environment, so I get really worried he isn't sleeping enough.

Anyway - my main q. is whether you think this sounds like colic? He very rarely works himself up to a cry, and everything I read about colic is how it's associated with excessive crying. It's just the hour of grunting and thrashing about, consistently around 45 mins after his middle of the night feed (regardless of whether this is fed at 4, 4.30, 4.45 etc.)

Does anyone have any ideas or tips on what's causing this and what might help him sleep a bit more peacefully? I wonder whether it's something to do with him struggling to move into the next sleep cycle, but I have no idea really. We already have him on copied drops, and gaviscon as he has a bit of reflux. Also do all the things like feed upright, sit up for 15 mins after feeding, burp plenty throughout feeds, regular tummy massage, anti-colic bottles, etc.

Thanks!

It sounds like reflux to me Tbh, I've had two with it who used to do this. Staying upright for 15 minutes after a feed isn't long enough, they need 30-45 mins. It's brutal at night. Try putting a wedgehog in his cot to keep him a little raised when you put him back to bed, it really helped my guys xxx

Thanks moodycow... It drives me insane not knowing what it is and how to help him!!

So with sitting upright after a feed, is this to be done even when he's ready for a nap? And if so then (sorry for the simple question) how did you handle this? Just prop them on my chest/get a sling/sit him in his bouncer?

What is his nappy like?
I noticed my daughters was a little slimy and with the other (just like yours ) symptoms combined it turned out I had to cu dairy out whilst feeding her.

Ah thanks for the info... His nappies seem same as usual but he's formula fed now, anyway (should have mentioned!)
