Anyone used a Groclock?

Do the Groclocks help keeping toddlers in bed longer/encourage them to go back to sleep? Have a 2.5 year old that wakes at 4am and just won't go back down - help!

We have just started using it with our 3 year old and it's really helped - no more early wake up calls!

We got one on vinted for half the price as well 😃

Yes, we used them very successfully and so has my sister and many others I know of.
They are not a magic bullet and you need to stick to your guns with them. They still require you to be firm and consistent with returning to bed and staying there.
Our youngest went thru an early waking phase which we had to push through with a few weeks of tears and tantrums as I returned her to bed over and over til she got the message!!

It's the best £20 pounds or so Ive ever spent! Still use it now my son is almost 6. He uses it to tell the time. Now. A d some knows how long he's got left til morning. Great product!

Silverbirch2 · 15/04/2022 17:26

Yes still use it with 6 year old. Honestly do it- life changing!

RandomQuest · 15/04/2022 17:31

The principle is great but I found it far too complicated to use so chucked it. A simple digital alarm clock was better IMO but obviously they have to know numbers for it to work, mine was 3 I think when we started using it.

WellTidy · 15/04/2022 17:33

Used with with Ds1, who understood the concept well, really embraced it at bedtime, and then chose to ignore it each and every morning when he woke up.

Toponeniceone · 15/04/2022 17:37

Yes with both of mine. Still use them age 10. It gives structure and something to blame, "sorry the sun isn't out yet". Even if they don't sleep, they know its not time to get up. They can see time progressing, and the stars going out one by one.

It helped my autistic son understand that it wasn't time to get up yet. He still doesn't sleep but it has stopped him being quite as distressed when he is not allowed to go downstairs. Absolutely worth a try.

My little girl (26 months) went through/ is going through a period of waking at 4 and it is torture. I have a gro clock. It has worked, I now manage to get her to sleep until 5am sometimes later. She is still waking once in the night but I remind her that she can’t wake up until the sunshine is up. So we have had some improvement.

Mybobowler · 15/04/2022 19:24

My three year old understood the instruction to stay in bed until her clock turned yellow, bit apparently missed the part about staying nice and quiet until then. The Gro Clock was functionally just a 6am alarm clock, with my daughter yelling from her bed, at the top of her voice : "MUMMYDADDY MY CLOCK IS STILL BLUE"

0/10

SunshineAndFizz · 15/04/2022 19:25

Thanks all, we'll defo give it a go! She used to be a brilliant sleeper, would go down no problem and sleep right through until 7.30 ish. Then for the last month we've had these mega early starts (she has blackout blinds, regular naps, good routine) so no idea what's going on!

I gave up with it she didn't care 😂 and she was a bit older when I got it maybe 3 1/2.

Although it was only so that she wld stop getting up at say 7am because it was summer and sun peaking through the black out blinds and curtains. I hate getting woken before 8am! This yr I think I'm going to try taping the curtains to the wall 😆🤞🏻

csectionmumma · 15/04/2022 22:40

Do the clocks just teach them to stay in bed and not start their day until a certain time? Or do they go back to sleep? I can imagine if they wake early they just learn to stay in bed, so doesn't solve the actual waking early? Or do they fall back to sleep?

Ephigenia · 15/04/2022 23:21

Worked a treat for our 2 year old who wouldn't stay in bed in the evenings. We gave her a chart, and the deal was if she stayed in bed all night, she would get a sticker in the morning. A full week of stickers got her a balloon - she literally never came out of her room again when she wasn't supposed to Smile. She is nearly 10 now and still uses it as a bedside clock.

The only issue we had was when we forgot to tell the babysitter how to work it, and DD got quite distressed when the sun wouldn't go down!

SunshineAndFizz · 24/04/2022 13:05

Update: we've had the GroClock for three nights now and it's been fantastic. DD has gone to sleep quickly, slept through the night (if she has woken up she must gone back down herself without making a sound) and only got up once the clock was yellow.

Early days but a huge success so far.

Totally worked with us and still works now age 7.
however lots of kids don’t get it for some reason.
totally worth it for us and at £20 is def worth a shot.
