Lighthearted really but I’m exhausted and dreaming about the day my baby becomes a child/teen who wants a Saturday morning lie in šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. X

My 7yo likes a lie in; her twin is normally first up. Confused

AntarcticTern · 07/04/2022 19:35

My 12yo is still an early riser, but at least I don't have to get up with him any more! He'll come downstairs by himself to get cereal and watch TV. My 16yo will happily lie in bed until lunchtime.

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 07/04/2022 19:35

Mine started at about 7/8 but now the older ones at 12/13/14 lie in til noon on a Sunday!

LittleBearPad · 07/04/2022 19:36

10 I’m finding. They are a bookworm though.

Yes puberty.
frostedfruits · 07/04/2022 19:38

My one has started sleeping later than 8am, 10am sometimes at weekends! Itsbliss and long awaited. He's 12

Loopytiles · 07/04/2022 19:39

Depends on the DC!

KittyBurrito · 07/04/2022 19:39

My 12 year old does ....but puberty has just hit!

fitzbilly · 07/04/2022 19:39

My eldest didn't have a lie in until they were 17Grin before then they were up at seven no matter what. Even now they hardly sleep.

My youngest started sleeping in at 3. He'd sleep till 9:30 at the weekends. Bliss.

Passthecake30 · 07/04/2022 19:40

My 12&13 do, however, they refuse to go to bed on Friday and Saturday nights until about 10.30/11 so there’s a flip side!

Longdistance · 07/04/2022 19:41

My dd12 stated this when she started Senior school. Dd10 does occasionally have a lie in.

BakedBeeeen · 07/04/2022 19:44

You don’t need to wait until they want a lie in! By age 4 they can be trained to go downstairs and play quietly. Mine both wake up around 6.30 but know they have to whisper and play quietly till mummy or daddy get downstairs!

TheOldLadyOfThreadneedleStreet · 07/04/2022 19:46

My PFB has always been an early riser but from 7/8 he has been happy to sort out his own breakfast, etc for a while. My DD sleeps all morning at weekends, she’s 15. But to give you hope, I was able to start getting up at 8am at weekends from when they were 4 ish and could be trusted downstairs alone.

ilovebencooper · 07/04/2022 19:47

My 5 year old has been having a nice lie in since she was about 3.5. But be careful what you wish for, if she gets up at 9/9.30 she is awake until 11 at night

LadyCatStark · 07/04/2022 19:48

DS got up about 8am on non school days from about 6 but now he’s 13 next month and will quite happily sleep til noon if left to it.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 07/04/2022 19:49

Another with a 10yo starting to experiment with lie ins

Also, the other day he put something away after using it Shock but that seems to have been a temporary aberration.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 07/04/2022 19:50

My 11 year old sometimes has a lie in and stays in bed til 7:30 now šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£ - but she's been able to get up get breakfast since about 8
My 7 year old would gladly sleep til 8:30 everyday if it wasn't for school.

RandomNumb3rs · 07/04/2022 19:51

12ish here, but after the age of about 9/10 I didn’t feel the need to get up with them if they were getting up early.

KylieCharlene · 07/04/2022 19:51

My DS is 12 years old and once he is awake he makes sure the whole house is awake and he can't settle until everyone is up and about even if he then goes and chills on his bed with his phoneHmm.
The latest he has ever laid in till was 8:30am and I was worried he hadn't been in my bedroom to get me up so I went to check on him and woke him in the processGrin.

ExcitingTimes2021 · 07/04/2022 19:59

Ah I knew it was going to be pre-teen/teen sort of age but part of me was really hoping it was like 4/5 šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. Iv always loved my sleep so getting a non sleeping baby has been a real shock to the system!
If I go of the average of about 12, just 11 years and 4 months to go. I’ll put a countdown on my phone šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ x

It's not a lie in you need, it's being old enough to get up themselves and entertain themselves without shouting:" muuuuum".
In that case, it's about 8-10, depending on kid.

FATEdestiny · 09/04/2022 13:55

If I go of the average of about 12, just 11 years and 4 months to go

... assuming you don't have another child.

By the time you get there, you're likely to have grown out of lie-ins anyway. I consider 9am a lie in now, my teens are rarely out of bed before 10.30am if they have the choice. So I don't like in with them.

I know I sound like a patronising twat saything this - but the life of staying in bed all morning at the weekend is the life of the not-really-grown-up-grownups. Once you have teenage kids, most parents are well and truly past that.

So in short - sleeping all morning will probably never be something you do ever again. You'll look back on your pre-baby days fondly and question why you didn't value it more. Cos it winter come back.

Changechangychange · 09/04/2022 13:59

Four! Unfortunately only on school days, he is still quite keen to get up at 6am on Saturday and Sunday. I have found that planning something for early in the morning is a good way to ensure he doesn’t want to get up Wink

Can also recommend a Tonie or any other audiobook device - DS was awake at 6:30 this morning but quite happy to lie in bed with a Tonie playing until 8am.
