hi all, wasn't sure whether this should go in the sleep or feeding section but here goes...i've been trying to wean my 7 mo off night-time feeds for around a month now and not getting very far unfortunately. although she has slept through a few times, this is far from consistent and i am getting to the end of my tether with the sleep deprivation! the problem is that since being on solids she often doesn't want her bed-time bottle at 6.30pm, so wakes up in the night and is impossible to get back to sleep without feeding. and i wouldn't want to let her cry it out if she is genuinely hungry n the night. has anybody had a similar situation? if anybody has any ideas or advice i'd be much obliged....

what time is dinner? My lo's have dinner at around 5pm and then they had their bedtime bottle at about 7/7.15pm - maybe you need to make dinner earlier to make sure your lo is not too full to take her milk. From 6 months I also started reducing the night-time feed by an ounce every few days until ds was down to 4 oz - he gave up his night feed by himself at 8 months.

What routine for milk/solids do you have? I always gave milk first then solids about an hour later so that ds took plenty milk but still had an appetite for solids e.g.

7am - milk
8am - breakfast
11am - milk
12pm - lunch
3pm - milk
5pm - dinner
7.15pm - milk
in the night till 8 months - milk

hi seona - we have a very similar routine to you, except that she has lunch at about 1pm and usualy goes to bed at about 6.30-6.45 so have to give her milk then, maybe reducing the night-time feed might help, although i'm worried that will just make her wake up again a few hours later!

could you give lunch and dinner earlier e.g. 12pm and 4.30pm - maybe that would leave more room for milk. Re: the night feed - thats why I did it 1oz at a time so ds could make up for the loss during the day without feeling too hungry. I did it over a period of a few weeks too so it wasnt all done in a short space of time - I also didnt want him waking up any more than he had to!!

have a look at my thread about leaving 6mth ds to cry - there are a few ideas on there.

I am going to offer water in the night instead of milk and leave the radio on a classical music channel - apparently that helps reduce crying.
