My Dd has just turned 3, the dummy fairy has been & taken her dummies.
Before this she would have a 6.30pm bedtime, wake at 7am earliest & have an hour - 2 hour nap in the day after lunch.

She has been ready to drop the nap for a while so we just play it by ear with that, some days she needs it some days she doesn't.

We're on day 3 with no dummy, so I know it's early days but I'm 5 months pregnant with our 2nd baby & getting more exhausted !

She goes to bed & sleep fine.
She has been waking at least 2-3 times a night crying, I go in give her a cuddle & tuck her back in. But she is waking at like 5.30ish & not getting back in her bed / kicking off not wanting to go back to sleep.
So she ends up in our bed & with no dummy she is just either crying, or non stop chewing our ears off while we're trying to get the last hour of sleep in.
She only had the dummy at bedtime anyway & im thinking does it really matter ?! .... I need sleep !

Any advise ?
Please help

It's been a few days since you wrote this, what did you decide to do?

I wouldn't consider dropping the dummy until daytime napping has completely stopped. It sounds like you might be on the cusp of that, but not quite there yet. So I wouldn't have taken the dummies away just yet.

Hiya,
She was falling to sleep at night fine without it (after abit of faffing)
But was waking a lot in the night and then waking early morning again ... I felt like rubbish, pregnant, full of cold & tired... she woke at 3am and wouldn't settle back off one night so I gave it & gave her an emergency dummy we had stashed !
So she's been having it back for nap & bedtime but that's it. No more night wakings & sleeping in until 7am again 👌🏼☺️🥰
We've decided to leave as is for now... she's come out with chicken pox this morning so glad of the dummy now !! Lol
Will maybe try again in a few months.
She only uses the MAM perfect dummies so are flat & thankfully do not effect her teeth at all
Thanks for the reply

We had this. Took the dummy away at nearly 3 with great sleep. Led to 9 months of crappy sleep! In retrospect it was too much of a shock for her. I should have tried putting a hole in it so the 'suck' was less satisfying and seeing if she was less into it then.... always wise after the act!

LaurenH0893 · 13/04/2022 19:01

Aaah she has a hole in 1 of them as she has bit it so will give this a go with the others too.
Thankfully she only has it for sleep so really it's not a big issue.
We would have just liked it gone before baby no. 2 arrives but we will see.

We did the same just before DS turned 3 - he already had no daytime naps and slept great at night. Took the dummy away and it was like a switch flicked and he just couldn’t stay asleep. I persevered for a week then relented and gave it back and he instantly went back to sleeping through. We were super strict and he was only allowed it when it bed and he naturally gave it up not long after.
Id say give it back for all your sanity especially as you’ll be sleep deprived in a few months time anyway - get as much sleep as you can now while you can.

LaurenH0893 · 19/04/2022 09:26

Thank you !

We're back to the dummy but as you say really strict & it stays in bed.
She's been perfect since 😅 and we will just see how she goes & hopefully she gives it up eventually when she's ready.

Hello
I'd of gave it back it too so you can get some sleep for your next baby! And I don't think it's a big deal at all if only having it off a night and hopefully the hole helps an makes it less appealing!

Just wondering when you say it stays in bed, when she wakes does it put it in her bed for later. My son has a dummy too looking for useful tips to keep it just for bedtime!

Thanks x

What does the dentist say about her teeth?

LaurenH0893 · 21/04/2022 13:14

Yes so I get her up & say put dummy & blanket in bed ready for later usually followed by an exciting distraction of what's happening today then she's off & forgot about it.
After nursery is usually a battle & she is tired & grumpy so it may come back out before bed time but I'd rather have the peace Grin

Dentist said no issues, as she has the Mam perfect soothers that are flat so no teeth movement as far as they can see.

Same situation here. DS is about to turn 2. Went from sleeping 7-7 to taking HOURS to fall asleep and waking throughout the night. His sister is a terrible sleeper and I am also pregnant. Gave him the dummy back after a week!

Timeandtune · 21/04/2022 13:26

My DS1 is almost 30( no idea how that happened). He had a dummy until almost 4. He has perfect teeth- never needed braces. DS2 on the other hand was never interested in a dummy.
