Hello,

I just have a quick question in regards to the snuzpod4 next to me crib. My little one is nearly six months old and has recently learned to roll. At night she often rolls on to her side, but a few times she has rolled on to her front in the crib, and I have gently put her back so she is not sleeping on her front. The snuzpod4 is quite narrow and has a mesh lining going around the perimeter of the crib. Do you think it is safe for her to continue sleeping in this or would it be safer to move her into a cotbed?

My little one will be 7 months tomorrow and we moved to the cotbed 2 weeks ago for the same reason, now he loves having space to move about. He still wakes anywhere between 2-15+ times a night so we’ve brought the cotbed into our room so I’m not back and forth all night. We did try to attach it to our bed like the snuzpod but couldn’t get a safe fit without a gap. He is only a foot away from our bed though so I can still see and reach him with no issues.

Sleep actually got significantly better for about a week before going downhill again, I’m sure that is related to teeth rather than cot though.

Thanks for your response lemongrass. I’ve contacted the lullaby trust as I was so worried for advice, and also snuz who make the snuzpod, although they didn’t get back to me. I’ve decided to put her into her cotbed tonight and so far she’s been asleep for the past couple of hours with no issues. I just figure that if she does roll on her front, she has more space to roll back on to her back and not get pinned in as such. I was advised that if she is a confident roller then as long as I put her to bed on her back it is fine if she rolls on to her front and I don’t have to roll her over. Although saying that, I have such an intense fear of SIDS I definitely think I would have to roll her over. I’ve got the cubo ai monitor and it alerts me if she’s rolled over which helps a little bit with my anxiety.

Teething is also a nightmare! My little one has just cut her first two bottom teeth but it’s not been an easy ride! I’ve heard the molars are the worst when they come through.

How did your little one sleep in the cotbed last night?

I know what you mean about SIDS, I have been quite worried as a first time mum but it has got a lot better. When he was in the snuzpod I would gently pop my hand on his chest every time I woke to make sure he was okay but I’ve stopped doing that now he is in the cotbed.

He is still in our room at night and contact naps or sleeps in pram/car so he is not alone for sleep. I have started to leave him for a little bit once he is down for the night while I go and tidy/have a cup of tea with my husband but we live in a flat and leave the door ajar so can hear him and we check on him regularly. Doing this has really helped my confidence. He does like to sleep on his side or tummy but he is a very confident roller so I’m happy with this, although I did worry the first few nights. I always put him down on his back and then let him figure out his own sleeping position.

One thing that really helped me was this infographic, it’s American so not from the lullaby trust but I found it helpful knowing the risk went down by age.

I tried to get help from the lullaby trust and snuz, the company that makes the snuzpod, but neither of them got back to me. I put her to bed in her cotbed tonight, and she's been sleeping well for the past couple of hours. I just think that if she rolls onto her front, kipas guys will be easier for her to roll back onto her back and not get stuck.
