Breast feeding mamas when did the night feeds stop for you? My baby is 5 months I'm wondering if a whole nights sleep may be in the near future 😂

Still feeding in the night. Dd is 11 months.
It's usually just once now but it was 3 times until about a month ago!
Also hoping for a full nights sleep soon 😅

The short answer - 13 months.

The long answer, as 13 months will feel like FOREVER when your little one is only 5 months and I Googled and cried and wished the time away when DS was that age... it was not too bad from about 9 months, as DS usually only woke once for a feed (and slept for 11 - 13 hour stretches excepting that wake up, so I was able to get enough rest). Weaning helped (a full tummy) and becoming more mobile (more tired!). At 13 months he eventually slept through all on his own for a whole week, and when he woke in the night the next week I just offered water (which he rejected, and just went back to sleep after a bit of a complaining). I don't plan to offer night BF again unless he is poorly.

I hope it is soon for you - it may be sooner than above as I had a particularly terrible sleeper early on, and I am aware that many people actively night weaned as well.

Around 8-9 months but that was off the back of sleep training which reduced the night wakings/feeds from five to one, and she then pretty much weaned herself off the last one (ie. it got later and later/earlier and earlier until it morphed into sleeping through plus a horribly early start to the day). Gosh, I don't think she's ever had an 11 hour night in her life, much less 13. The dream!

DD1 - 13 months but she didn’t sleep through the night until 2, but not reliably
DD2 - 2 3/4 and is still going she did a brief stint after her birthday of sleeping through.

Oh sorry just realised you said bf. DD1 was ff at that point.
Bobojangles · 04/04/2022 21:36

For no 1 it was 18 monthsbwhen he started sleeping through
For 2 I stopped breastfeeding at about 20 months, he's 3 and still doesn't sleep through reliably
3 is 12 months and no where near sleeping through, and boob is the only way to get her back to sleep

5 months is still very small!

parkrunsandpinot · 04/04/2022 21:37

My baby is 14 months and still wakes for boob every two hours and has never ever slept through. Sorry Grin

parkrunsandpinot · 04/04/2022 21:39

@Purple1998 I can't recommend cosleeping and lying down feeding enough. It's saved me, I don't even open my eyes now

it stopped when the child was 23 months old for my wife. it could vary from person to person.
becca3210 · 04/04/2022 21:43

Around 12 months we fully night weaned started gradually reducing to 2 from 6.5 months in tandem with sleep training and moving to own room. Didn't sleep through until no night milk.

IwaswhoIam · 04/04/2022 21:43

With my first born it was around 8 or 9 months. He was ( and still is ) a great little sleeper .

With my second , I’m still night nursing and he’s 16 ( nearly 17 months). He wakes at least once to nurse still . My husband can go in and rock him back to sleep too although that can take an hour where my boob takes ten minutes so I almost always nurse .

SnackSizeRaisin · 05/04/2022 11:43

6 months with my first. No sleep training she just did it herself and started sleeping 7 till 7. My second was completely different though!

SJ179 · 05/04/2022 11:52

My DD is 12 months old and still wakes every few hours for BF. I miss sleep 😭

MGee123 · 05/04/2022 12:43

6 months and weaned onto formula around the same time. No weaning as such needed, she just stopped needing to be fed and was happy to be settled back to sleep without it. From 6 months onwards they are physiologically able to manage a night without feeding so long as they have sufficient intake in the daytime. EBF does tend to mean you're feeding through the night for longer I think.

Bobojangles · 05/04/2022 19:25

In response to @MGee123 don't let snyonent LL you FF babies are better sleepers!

My poor friend has a nightmare sleeper the same age as mine - she's FF and takes an hour or two to settle after waking in the night! At least with mine I just wipe a.boob out and cosleep so I don't feel it as much
