Tips for night weaning 8 month old

Any tips for night weaning an 8 month old?

He’s still waking up 3-5 times a night and requires the bottle to send him back to sleep. He gets through around 300ml throughout the night (about 2 small bottles) but is drinking 3 x 210ml bottles a day and 3 x meals a day along with snacks.. so he’s definitely getting enough food during the day.

I totally understand that he will need a feed at least once during the night. I’m not expecting him to sleep through. Would just like to cut out the unnecessary wake ups!

This sounds like the feeding is a sleep crutch rather than hunger. Does he get to sleep without the bottle at bedtime? If not I'd work on that first. If he does, have you tried cutting down the amount offered each wake? I would do that so he can adjust his daytime intake to compensate and then at some point you might have to bite the bullet and get him.back to sleep without the milk. Will probably involve crying. I think it's best to be consistent so treat every night wake the same. Feeding him sometimes and not others will be confusing and more upsetting. He most likely doesn't need a night feed. If he does it will become apparent but for now I would assume he doesn't.

As pp said. Sounds like bottle is being used as a crutch to get back to sleep them hunger, especially with that small amount.

I weaned by literally offering water for a few nights and then making sure eating plenty in the day and adding a supper if needed.

He totally doesn’t need a bottle during the night. Definitely a crutch. Cut down what you offer by half for a couple nights, then water. Then cold turkey.

He’s definitely using the bottle/milk as a crutch. I always offer water which sometimes works to send him back.

He has a bottle after his bath and if he’s still awake after that he does happily go to sleep from awake. We don’t have a problem there.. so I know he can do it!

Will work on cutting the feeds down. Thanks!
