Self Soothe Issue

Hi.

LO is 6month has a fairly solid bedtime routine and settles to sleep when put down reasonably well, however when he wakes in night usually between 1-3 he just can't seem to get back to sleep - he isn't hunger crying more groaning/whinging - goes quiet 5 mins and repeat. We have been going in as it escalates if we dont. Any ideas?

He’s six months old. He can’t ‘self soothe’. He needs you.

Hes a baby. Comfort him, change him, and offer some milk.

Idea - develop some empathy for your child. He's a tiny baby and needs you. Give him your attention.

Not sure why previous posters are taking such a tone. It's perfectly reasonable to want your baby to go back down at night! They do go through these weird phases so go with it, will probably change in a week or two!

You got some grumpy sleep deprived responses there!
It may be due to whatever you are doing when you go in. Ideally keep the baby in the cot and soothe them until they go back to sleep. Or give a quick feed or cuddle then put back into cot for the rest of the night. If you have a habit of bringing the baby into your bed or giving lengthy feeds or cuddles they get used to it and find it difficult to get back to sleep on their own.

I’m not sure why some posters are so angry on here😂

Are you sure he isn’t hungry? Even if it isn’t his typical ‘hunger cry’ you can still give him a little to see if he takes to it and see how it goes?
DD started doing this around that age, I’d give her a bottle and put her back in her cot.

She occasionally does this now even at 10 months. Just yesterday we were up at 1am😂 I gave her a bottle and then let her look out of the window for 10mins. She then put herself back to sleep once she hit the cot

Agree with @babywalker I would rule out hunger first before trying to get them to resettle in cot. As long as they go back to sleep by themselves after the feed it shouldn't cause major problems. IME babies can still be hungry at night on and off until they are older than some so called experts say.
