sleep solution for baby with disabled mum

Hi, I have a disability which means I have difficulty lifting my baby (currently 7 month old) out of her cot. She has outgrown the next-to-me crib which worked well for me if I needed to respond to her during the night. It's time for her to go into a full size cot. I wondered if there was anything out there that could turn a cot into a next-to-me like setup, by removing one of the sides and pushing it up against the bed. Obviously this is not safe as she could roll down into the small gap. Any ideas on how this could be safely modified much appreciated. I don't want to co-sleep with her in my bed as I have been advised about the risks by professionals.

Try googling "ikea cot co-sleeper hack". I don't know much about it but I know some people do take off the cot side to make a cosleeper.

I think you might need to buy a specific bed like an Arm's Reach. They are huge so can go next to you and then function as a normal cot. However, another perhaps safer and easier solution might be take all the beds down to floor level. Your baby is soon going to be big enough to move out of any co-sleeping space and I am guessing isn't going to be any easier for you to lift?

Just looking up co-sleepers and they are only recommended up to 5 months so I think you need to think of another solution.

Try looking at John Lewis.

We had a full side cot that the side dropped and slid underneath meaning we could use it like an extension of the bed and effectively co- sleep. It was some years ago and I don't remember the make.

Honestly with a 7 month old I wouldn’t be too concerned about them falling down a gal if you took the side off the cot. Are they rolling and shuffling about? As long as they can roll back I wouldn’t be too worried myself. The SIDS risk massively decreases after 6 months as well. Personally I’d take the side off the cot, but I think PP suggestion of all beds at floor level is also not a bad idea if you’re able to get up and down to the floor.

There are specific cosleeper groups on Facebook and I'm sure mums on there will be able to help you find a solution with a suitable bed /cot.

Just looked at JL site.. would something like the Chicco next to me forever suit your needs?

I took the side off the cot. Put tolled up towels in the gap and used bungees to attach the cot legs to the bed legs.
I had the cot mattress slightly higher than the bed because I didn’t want any covers or me falling off the bed and into the cot.

Are the co sleeping risks specific to your disability or medication ? If so then obviously co sleeping not an option if not I would definitely look into it more.
