Hi I'm hoping some people have some light to shed at the end of this tunnel. My baby is 4 months old (I know regression hits) he is breastfed and used to sleep 6-7 hour stretches then back down again for another 1-2 hours.

However as past 2 weeks he has been sleeping 11-3 or 12-3am. Last night was 12-3, awake at 4, 5:10, 5:50 and then 6:40am. I am exhausted. He will not take a dummy no matter which ones I've tried or how I've tried.

I believe he is wakening and then needs the comfort of me to fall back to sleep.

Anyone else in the same boat or any advice on how to try change this? Or to take a dummy? Please.

Following. I'm in the same position with my 5 month old. Except he went from a good 5 hour stretch, to 3 hour stretch and hourly wake ups (like you), and now it's hourly wake ups the whole night. Haven't had longer than an hour for 2 weeks now. He also won't take a dummy. It's so exhausting.

@pinkprettyroses sorry you are in the same boat! It's utterly exhausting, I also have a toddler so unfortunately can't sleep when baby sleeps! But his naps are all up the left now too, he's just having cat naps 😞

I hear you! My four month old is still fine overnight (for now!) but is so difficult to get down for naps. The last few days he's had 4 catnaps and is so blinking grumpy! Poor DD (23 months) is getting well fed up with it, as am I!

@MoorGirl it's awful 😞

Last night was the worst night yet. Sleeping at 11pm woke at 1:30am and then hourly after that. I honestly feel dead.

@Fawn68 ouch that's rough. Hope you're feeling ok today and have some cake in! Remember it won't last forever Thanks

It will pass. In the meantime have you tried every dummy. I mean every dummy? Persevere with them in the day to begin with- foisting them on him at night will just frustrate and upset him. You could try dipping them in breastmilk.

I've cut down the night feeds this past week with my 5 month old (previously woke every two hours to "feed") by giving him my top which I've worn all day each time he wakes. That combined with dummy, shh shh shh, and bum patting does the trick now but took some persevering the first few times. If he gets very upset (more than whinging) I feed him straight away. It's easier to tell now when he genuinely wants milk and when he's just seeking some comfort.

@GromblesofGrimbledon Yep I have bought every single dummy I possibly can. Also trying them during the day with no luck, he just chews down on it and doesn't suck!

I always have a top of mines in his bed, also white noise is played all night and for all nap times.

Unfortunately my little one just seems very upset each time he wakes, and he wakes the whole house up which isn't ideal as I have a toddler. It just seems when he wakes he can't get himself back to sleep and screams almost instantly until he is fed.

For example tonight he had a 5oz bottle aswell as a breastfeed and he still screamed like he has never been fed before! This has been going on for 3 weeks now and I physically can't keep doing this.

@Fawn68

That's rough. If he's trying to chew them perhaps it's his teeth. Mine will sometimes take his dummy out and gnaw on the other side of it. Is he waking because he needs help with the pain of teething perhaps?

My boy has teeth coming through at the moment and he loves the dummy when it's been put in in ice cold water.

Anyone any improvement yet? Things have gotten worse here and now into our 3rd full week 😩
