Swaddle to Grobag change last night was a TOTAL disaster - need help!

Ds is 4.5 months and is still being swaddled - we have tried a couple of times to move him from his swaddle into his grobag but it's never worked so last night we thought we would just have a couple of awful nights and then hopefully he would get the hang of it. ( we also have a problem of trying to wean him off his dummy at night but thought we would tackle the grobag issue and then do the dummy one next) He went to bed at 7 and woke up on average about every 10 mins screaming, if we held his arms by his side he would drop off instantly but as soon as I let go his eyes would ping awake. He went from 7pm until about 2.30am waking every 10 mins and by that stage I was so tired I just couldn't face carrying on and swaddled him.

The dummy weaning and now the grobag weaning are going so so badly that it is really beginning to get me down. I'm now dreading tonight and it all starting again.

Why not leave him swaddled for longer if he likes it?

he's too strong and gets his arms out of the swaddle now, which wakes him up and then he wriggle so much he ends up all tangled in the swaddle, so thought it was time to movw to grobag

I've just stopped wrapping DS at 10 months. It didn't work a couple of weeks ago but this time I tried it during the daytime naps first, and then at night after a few days. It has worked!

DD moved from swaddle to Grobag @ 8 months - we did try when she was 6 1/2 months but she got too 'flappy' and kept waking herself up. I tried swaddling with just one arm out for a while (and found the BIGGEST piece of fabric we had - a cot sheet) and this worked well-ish - it was a bit hit and miss until the final change.

We don't use the bag during the day, only for the big night time nap. Hoping she'll get the idea that we want her nice and warm so we don't hear a peep until morning. Fat chance on the big sleep, but that's a whole 'nother thread

My dd is ten months and she is in a gro bag but is also tucked in with a very thin blanket - this seems to do the trick.

When I was transitioning ds from swaddle to grobag at 6months I put him in the grobag with his arms inside it which meant he was still slightly restricted. Like you the first night was just awful, but the next night was a bit better and the next night was a lot better.
