1yr olds wake screaming at 5am!

I’m back again looking for more support/help with sleep and my 1yr old twins as I’m almost at the end of my tether.

(Almost) Every morning, they wake between 5-5.15am absolutely screaming.
One starts and wakes the other and it’s absolute rage and anger. No consoling them, hushing or white noise interests them. Tried leaving them but after a few minutes it’s unbearable.

We’ve tried milk a few times - they gulp it down but we are lucky if they go back to sleep; and if they do it’s only for 5-20min.

Naps are hard as they’re in nursery 4 days but tend to be 40 min mid morning then 1-1.5hrd around 2pm.

Any ideas? My heart breaks as they sound so upset in the morning. Normally one of us gets up and takes them downstairs where they’re either content to play or moan for an hour as they’re obviously still tired!

Send all your advice and support this way!

Do they cheer up once up?

Both mine wake at 5 every day, always have really. I just get them up and downstairs

My 16 month old wakes at 5.30 screaming every day. I basically have continued to bf because that buys me an extra hour - she will lie in bed with me feeding until 6.30 - but guessing that’s not an option for you and would be tricky with twins anyway!

Her naps are exactly the same as yours and I was thinking might be time to drop down to a 2 hour nap at 12.30-2.30, which is what my first child did from about 12 months. Might be worth a try as they might be more tired for their night sleep? Or you could try putting them to bed later?

What time do they have their dinner? Could they be waking up hungry?
I give my DS rice pudding just before bed to fill him up.

@OnceuponaRainbow18They don’t really get happy - or at least they both don’t. Tend to be better after milk which makes me think it’s maybe hunger/growth spurt but often are still clingy and grouchy.

@FolkSongSweetNaps are hard to control as they are in nursery 4 days but may try it at the weekend!

I do rice pudding too @JemimaTiggywinkle - they have tea at 3.30, we offer dinner at 5.30 and then 8oz fore bed.
