Dummies!

My 18wo sometimes manages to fall asleep without her dummy - when I assume we have somehow nailed the wake window and she happily sends herself off. However if she wakes up from a nap and needs resettling, the only way I seem to be able to get her to go back to sleep is with the dummy. So I feel so close to being able to remove it totally but then need it to finish naps! Otherwise she won’t go back down and. I worry she won’t get enough sleep.
Any dummy tips much appreciated x
Or any tips on how to figure out the dream wake windows 🙈
Xx

Hi @1234Becca, we're just giving this thread a bump in case anyone's around to give you some tips Smile

At 18w she’s still so little that it doesn’t really matter does it? She can have the dummy for longer if that’s what helps her

She’s got a sleep association with the dummy which is why she’s looking for it. If you really want to get rid of it you could go cold turkey and deal with the extra cuddles for the next few days, but if I were you I’d take what you’ve got and leave her with the dummy for now

My lo would wake up when dummy wasn't there in between cycles. I used to pop dummy back in, and she would go back off to sleep after resettling.

I'm a lover of a dummy; it's a great way to self soothe for lo. Especially when their older and middle of night.

When their older too they do search and put their own dummy in.

Personally, I continued with dummy, and yes, lots of settling needed to give dummy. But now she self soothes with her dummy.

You could let lo practise in the day and pop lots of dummies around the cot to get lo used to dummies are around them, so they learn this and start reaching when they stir. I think by 7 months my lo was reaching and putting in dummy.

I'm not sure if this really helps.....
