Please help me get my DD to sleep in her big girls bed

DD is still in her moses basket and we have to stay with her until shes off to sleep as she can sit up and fall out of it. She hates her cot, I've tried all the tricks, putting the basket in the bed, no eye contact when I go in and comfort her, sitting with my back to her. What else can I do? I'm back at work in 3 weeks and desperately need to get this sorted.

Hi. How old is she?

CarGirl · 01/01/2008 21:01

put the basket next to the cot (is she currently in the same room as the cot?) then after she gets used to that but the basket in the cot.

I think you are just going to have to ride it out and accept it could be a long process?

Daisypops · 01/01/2008 21:08

she is 12 vmonths. The basket is in with us, the cot is in her own room.

12 months in a moses basket?

cluckiemama · 01/01/2008 21:15

This is a really big step for her, because its not just changing beds, but also changing rooms. I think put moses basket in her bedroom so she gets used to not sleeping in your room, then put her in her bed when shes got to sleep so she wakes up in her bed.
Then when you put her in her bed to sleep, just keep putting her back each time she gets out. I had to do this with my dd for about a month, I agree with cargirl, its a long process but once she knows what you expect of her it'll be fine, she'll get used to it.

Daisypops · 01/01/2008 21:15

yes 12 months! I've been trying to get her in her cot for 5 months.

How do you physically fit a 12mo into a moses basket ?

We used to put the moses basket actually into the cot to begin with so DS1 got used to his room etc

ChorusLineMistletoeAndWine · 01/01/2008 21:18

Sorry didn't mean that in a rude manner . My ds was huge and did not fit in after 3 months!!!

Daisypops · 01/01/2008 21:18

At the moment I'm waiting til shes asleep in her basket then lifting that in to the cot, she sleeps through until the morning with no problems. If I take her out and lift her in to the cot she wakes up and cries. I've sat for two hours most nights tring all the advice and we still can't do it.

Its a long moses basket but she is cramped in it. I'm at the end of my tether.

Oh, and we started doing that with just the daytime naps first; once he was settled sleeping there during the day we moved him in for his nightime sleep too.

lazarou · 01/01/2008 21:20

Can you fit the cot in your room?

TheGoatofBitterness · 01/01/2008 21:21

can you put thecot in your room?

Daisypops · 01/01/2008 21:22

No the cot won't fit in our room.

Have you tried grobags?

lazarou · 01/01/2008 21:24

how about sleeping next to her cot in her room for a while so when she wakes up you are there

TheGoatofBitterness · 01/01/2008 21:33

dispense with cot. get a proper bed, put moses basket next to it on the floor and gradual wangle her into the bed. you could sleep with her until she gets to sleep. you can get bed guards if you are worried about her falling out.
