Nap time stress

Hi everyone!

Struggling to get my 7 month old baby into a nap routine.

The days I don't leave the house at all are easier and he will usually have a morning nap then a big afternoon nap, my issue is that the minute I leave the house he seems to fall asleep which has a knock on effect to the rest of the naps for the day.

Would really like to get out to some classes but if I put him in the car ( or pram) he will fall asleep. Even if he's just had a nap like half an hour before! Feeling a bit stuck in the house at the moment because of it.

Any advice gratefully received! Thanks.

Hi, I'm in the exact same position, feel like I'm chained to the house but in recent weeks I've just made my DS nap time my walking and head space time. I've ruled out classes atm just because it doesn't make sense to our routine but I still need to get a good walk in. I will walk for an hour or so in my locality (sometimes I walk the same road 3 times! But that's ok, I put on a pod cast and power through it!) on the days it's raining though I just make my peace that it's not going to happen and we're ok with that! Hope this helps! Sorry it's very generic but just wanted you to know, I hear ya 😊

Ahhhh we had the same, DD is my first and her naps were hard work as she was very rigid in where she would sleep, past 5/6 months there were no carrier or pram naps no matter how hard I tried and as a result we ended up chained to the house up to 12 months when nursery resulted in a drop to one nap. I will caveat it with her being an amazing night sleeper though 7 months onward

I have no idea what I'll do if I have a second as I won't be able to stay in but can't bear the idea of a tired baby:(

If out in the car I'll put some nursery songs on loud and sing along with ds. When it's warmer you could put the window down a bit so there is a breeze to try keep him awake until you get to your class?

Thanks everyone! Glad to know I'm not alone in this. I do go walks most days and he falls asleep. Mabye I should just start timing it with when he needs to nap and accept that if I need to go out it will be short cat naps that day.

Haha I try that with the nursery rhymes but it is really like he has a power down switch. If I have my mum or husband with me I get them to sit in the back and entertain him but it's just not sustainable. I'll definitely try the window trick 😂.

Were the other way round, my lo only sleeps in her cot! So once morning nap is done were straight out the door then need to be back for afternoon nap. I know it ties me, but I would rather than an overtired baby.

She can sleep in buggy, but it's very hard work.

Like you suggested, get ready to go out in the morning, and then when nap is due, go out then. Then, you have a long period of time out.

Enjoy as it may change x

I am a grannie and look after my 17month old granddaughter. She has a nap with mum and dad and they say she goes asleep no problems. I use the same routine as them but she will not go to sleep at all no mater what I do and this is creating difficulties with my daughter and she says she can get her to nap easy. what am I doing wrong. Its getting to the stage I don't want to have all this hassle. I am 57 years old

At 7 months don’t worry too much- if you count the hours of sleep they get it in 24hrs it probably works out- could be one giant nap or some days little naps here and there
