Ten month old still feeding at night

Hi!
DS goes to bed at 8pm every night, requiring a bottle to sleep.
At about 3/4am he wakes again, and needs a bottle. (He's formula fed as I have health issues)
Where do I begin quitting the dream feed?
Would love some advice!
Thank you :-)

Replace the formula with water or reduce the amount of formula you allow. So if he usually has 7oz, give max of 5oz for example. Taper the amount down until he doesn't bother waking for it. In my experience there's no need for a 10month old to feed at night other than habit. Good luck.

Thanks, this is super helpful :-)

Same here! She sleeps from 6.30pm - 4am when on the dot she wakes up screaming for milk as if she hasn't been fed for days!
I'm torn whether to try and phase it out as she always struggled to gain weight (due to a heart hole, now repaired) but I'd really like to get 8 hours sleep

Most breastfed babies are still feeding at night up to a year, so it's not massively unreasonable for a formula fed baby to do so surely.

I can’t see the issue if she goes back to sleep? Seems pretty normal at this age

DSGR · 27/01/2022 21:38

Ps can you just tip ready made formula into a bottle so at least you’re not running around preparing it?

My 1 year old has a similar sleep pattern, I just feed her to sleep. She'll stop when she's ready

I was going to say what first person said. I offered water when I cut our night feeds. As long as lo is eating good meals and having their minimum requirement for milk. Which If I member right is 600mls.

It was a rough few nights when I cut feed, but now doesnt feed in night. Also to help if generally hunger Which i sometimes do is offer a supper before bed. Toast weetabix that sort of thing. I would also try increasing calories in day.

We nightweaned my boy when he was 6 months. He was ebf. It was the best thing we did.

It was a gradual process to drop the night feeds but didn’t take long and I was surprised how well it worked. I followed a guide that was part of a sleep training pack.

To add. They say it worked meant the child was waking looking fed - so it was more proactive than reactive (meaning we didn’t need to replace with water etc)
I will say perhaps easier at 6 months than 10 as he was still “babyish” so waking at more routine predictable times/intervals so easier to work with. Not sure but could be worth a try for sure!

To also add. He didn’t need the night feeds. They were habit. He got enough calories during the day so it was not detrimental in that sense.
I weaned the middle of the nights first, but left the 11pm feed in place for longer.
