Do bedside cribs have to be attached to the bed?

Just that really - do bedside cribs have to be attached to my bed for safety, or can I use it as a standalone crib next to the bed?

I'm shopping for a soon-to-be newborn and only have a small space next to my bed, but don't wish to co-sleep.

I'm looking at something like this one below - but wasn't sure if it had to be attached to the bed for safe function? First time mum here, so any advice appreciated! Thank you x

They don't need to be attached to the bed. The next2me didn't fit our bed (it's very high) so we just left the side up and used it as a normal crib.

Yes think it's fine as long as the sides are up! That's how we used ours anyway x

Yes I have mine attached to my bed so I can stare at ds and check he is breathing Grin but the side can be zipped up on it and there is a sort of mesh window so you actually still see through it anyway. I have the tutti bambini one and love it, used it for both babies. It’s quite big so lasted my first about 9 months but younger ds is massive so don’t think it will be so long with him.

Nope! When we were transitioning DD to her own room we started by moving her Next To Me away from my side of the bed and having it at the end of the bed and then the other side of the room.

One thing I would say is that those type of cribs aren’t the sturdiest, so I wouldn’t use them past the point where little one might reasonably pull to stand. So I couldn’t have used it like PP until 9 months, but I still found ours really useful!

Echo other posters!

We have a snuzpod that can attach but we've always used it as stand alone crib by the wall.

We used it until 6 months when we transitioned to a full sized cot (as it is dangerous once they can pull up as precious poster mentioned).

The reason we liked the snuzpod is that the crib lifts off the stand. So when we transitioned we put the snuzpod crib INTO the full sized cot so he got used to the change of room. Then we unzipped one side, then the other so he gradually got used to more space. Seemed to work and we are currently using it with DS2

Good luck!

don't wish to co-sleep.

Baby may decide otherwise. I wouldn’t write it off completely.

Jasper2021 · 25/01/2022 21:25

I have used that one, it’s great and doesn’t need to be attached. Also I liked that I could buy the extension kit and not have to buy a completely new cot at 6 months. Only just stopped using it at 2 years.

Chakraleaf · 25/01/2022 21:27

It's so much when attached to bed!

MissMaple82 · 25/01/2022 21:48

If the side is down then yes obviously it needs to be attached otherwise not however I still had mine attached regardless.

Onemama · 28/01/2024 12:55

Why does it have to be attached though?
