Early risers

Morning everyone, anyone else have children who are up at the crack of dawn every day?!

I've resigned myself to the fact that they're both just early birds but the 5am starts are starting to drive me a little insane! DS1 is 4 (nearly 5) and has ALWAYS been an early riser, has never slept past 6am since around 1, no matter what time he goes to bed (whether it be 6:30pm or 8:30pm!) DS2 is 10 months and seems to be following the same pattern as his brother.

I know it'll come to and end eventually, and I'll miss these early mornings when they're grouchy teenagers lazing in bed till noon but god help my eye bags😂😂

Anyone else in the same boat? When did everyone's older DC start laying in a little? I'm hoping as they get older and they start going to bed later that'll stretch them out x

DC 1 is nearly 4 and once slept till 7:20....we didn't as thought something was wrong! The gro clock light comes on at 6am but it's a repetitive battle to get DC1 to stay in own room till then. DC2 is only 7 months but is so used to being woken by DC1 that waking time is 5-5:30 generally.

I thought I would struggle to go back to 5:30 wake ups for work after mat leave. Sadly not.

I do think it depends what sort of sleeper you are as to how you cope with this. I am an early riser. I woke up at 5am today. But I lie in bed and read or watch TV till everyone else is human :).

My son was an early riser but when he hit teenage years, he really struggled to get out of bed. I actually hated having to wake him up because it would take a few goes! It sounds odd but it's not easy if they are deep sleepers!

My daughter remained an early riser like me and when she got a bit older just read books and didn't disturb anyone else. She's now got a boyfriend who is an owl and only goes to bed at 1am and gets up late (he works late hours) and her sleeping has changed to chime in with his so it is possible to shift their patterns around!

School tires them out so you may see a change then!

Teach eldest the time no getting up before 6, the sneak it when they’re asleep and put the clock back an hour. They get up at “6” but it’s actually 7. Works if say you’re ill/very tired so you live the clock forward to bedtime half an hour early…good night to everyone

Thank you for your replies! Lovely to see I'm not alone and there is some light at the end of the tunnel!

We're going to try to be more firm with the grow clock and gradually move it later by ten minutes every few days. Anything past 6:30 is fine, but 5am (sometimes even earlier) is driving me and DP insane! It makes the days so long, by midday I'm ready for bed!

Thank you again, here's to sleeping when they move out 😂😂 x
