Losing the dummy!

Hello all,

My DS is 7 months now and whilst he's a good sleep at night, for some reason he just won't sleep for any longer than 30 mins in the day.

This morning, he woke up as he usually does after 30 mins, but instead of going in straight away I left him for 20 mins and he feel back to sleep for an hour and 40 without the dummy even needing to be put back in.

I'm now thinking is the dummy causing him issues and should I start to ween him off.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do this? I just tried to put him down for a nap without the dummy and he lost his shit so I caved (I know, I know, I shouldn't have) and gave him the dummy. He's now asleep but for how long who knows!

Thanks!

It sounds like the issue isn't the dummy, but you going in too soon when he wakes after a sleep cycle. Why not change that, rather than the dummy?

I'll give that a go first! Is there a length of time recommended for leave them for before going in?

At that age I started doing ‘crib hour’ so my DD stayed in her cot for an hour regardless of how long she slept (as long as she wasn’t screaming the place down) and she soon got the message!

Agree with PP though, I wouldn’t lose the dummy yet.

I don't go in to My lo unless she's getting upset. I always give a couple mins when she gets upset, tbh it takes me 2 minutes to get up the stairs 😆 half the time she's gone back to sleep or chilling by time I get to top of stairs x x

Have your tried putting a million dummies in the cot? I do that all spread around her cot it looks like a dummy graveyard x

Thanks so much guys! Gonna a give crib hour and a dummy graveyard (LOL @ChittyBang1987) a go!

Thanks so much xx

Just before 6 months I started making sure I left DS about 20mins or so before going in if he woke before an hour. He would only nap for exactly 40mins before this and then within a week or two of waiting 20mins he was sleeping a 2hr stretch nap after lunch. I found he would fuss for about 12-15mins at first when he woke then would go to sleep again ... but once he got used to me not going in right away he would simply roll over and send himself back to sleep.

Defo leave him longer when he wakes

But FWIW I ditched the dummy for sleep at the same time as it falling out did seem to wake him up more!
