Portable napping for baby / toddler?

Hi everyone,

DC1 is 6 months currently sleeps in a nexttome crib with a purflo sleepsafe pod stuffed inside it. She’s rapidly becoming too big for the pod so we’re going to have to remove it. This isn’t a problem at home, but when we go to family / friends houses it’s what we take with us to nap her in. What’s great is that it’s totally breathable, has a hard backing, and it provides some environmental consistency and cosy security. I thought about using the carrycot of the pram but this is also going to be too small very quickly. We have a travel cot but it’s HUGE and it’s a real b* to assemble and disassemble - definitely too much of a hassle if we’re just spending a few hours with some friends.

Can anyone recommend any sleep safe nap station / mini portable cot that would be suitable from now until it’s safe for her to sleep on a regular bed? I’m willing to spend money if it’s a good investment.

Thanks everyone!
X

When you switch out the carry cot for a toddler seat/ switch to a buggy you might find she naps in that. Often they recline quite a bit for this reason. A playpen/travel cot is a safe space for them to nap but much less portable. It’s works well for driving to visit friends and family if you can park next to the house. Less good in very urban areas.

Sorry I see you already have a travel cot

We had a pushchair that lay completely flat that was great for naps

@Diggersaursarethebest ah this is a good suggestion I hadn’t thought of, but I think probably more of a solution for when she’s older. I guess I’m trying to find something for the interim. My concern with the pram is bringing muddy / bulky pram into peoples houses where often the darkest quietest room in the house is upstairs in a carpeted bedroom. Our pram also a tank and takes so much room in the boot if we have to take it with us. I looked into dokatot but they aren’t safe for unsupervised sleep.

If it's just for a few hours visiting I probably wouldn't bother, IME they rarely sleep at other people's houses once they are more alert. If she falls asleep in the pram just leave it in the garden of there is one or just get a soft playmat to lie on the floor.

If it's for overnights we used the Koochi pop up pod as it was lighter to move around. Not so great for containment but it does provide a safe sleep space.
