Teething affecting settling at bedtime

Dd is 8mo and has been doing well with her sleeping. She has been putting herself to sleep within 15 minutes for bedtime and all naps and sleeping through the night and long stretches through the night. She has just cut her 3rd tooth and the 4th will be any day now. She is still going to sleep easily for naps and is (touch wood) still sleeping through the night but it is taking her ages to put herself to sleep at night. Could this be because of her teeth? I would assume so but I'm just confused because she's still doing so well for naps and throughout the night. Is it possible that the teething could just be affecting her settling for bed time and if so will it go back to normal once the tooth is through?

How many naps does she have?

Nix99 · 18/01/2022 20:59

@shouldistop she's on 2 naps. We follow wake windows etc and nothing has changed from when she was settling well before apart from the teeth cutting.

Ok I was wondering if she still had 3 and was time to drop it.
Is she upset at bedtime or just taking a long time to settle?
Could be a regression.

@shouldistop she does seem upset but she has always cried a bit when settling for sleep I think it's just something she does. She's fine once shes down and if she wakes in the night she can put herself back to sleep fine. I did wonder about a regression.

I'd think it would hurt overnight too if it was teething. You could always try Calpol to see if it helps.
Babies and toddlers go through loads of ups and downs with sleep over the first 2 years though.
