i've just moved my nearly 2 year old into a bed (he's got a double bed) he doesn't fall out and does sleep through the night once asleep in his bed but recently he's stopped screaming and fighting it he now will get out sit next to his stair gate on his door not crying just silent, with his snuggy and fall asleep next to it?? should i leave him to do this? i put him into his bed when he's asleep. i'm assuming he's not crying so he doesn't mind? is he just protesting because of his bed? Confused

My 2yo does this, i let her crack on.
She only wants to sleep squeezing my nipple with her mouth on my nose. I cannot sleep like this and i cant be driving dc1 back and for to school on 0 hours sleep.

I actually feel no guilt as she's very "willful" and im not going to lay awake all night for her benefit...

I'd get him a sleeping bag, my DS had one about that age though he used in his bed. They're not too expensive.

Listen, I'm not bothered where you are I just think that's a sad image I have bow of a little boy sitting on the floor alone at a gate till he falls asleep.

@Iamkmackered1979 i think he just likes uninterrupted sleep he's slept through since about 4 months old! i don't think having a gate on his door is any different to putting him awake in his cot (with bars) and shutting the door? if not i reckon that's worse Grin

My DD has a toddler bed which she was delighted with and loved sleeping in until she decided she wanted to sleep on the floor. It's been months and she's still on the floor apart from the odd night she chooses her bed. We're just leaving her to it, it's her preference and I'm sure she'll grow out of it.

She's moving to a bigger bedroom soon and will have a double bed which means DH or I can lie with her til she's asleep which is what we do now. Also, she's a wriggler and rolls around her room so think a double would be best.

Also, we have a stair gate at the top of the stairs, if for whatever reason that wasn't practical we'd probably have one for at her room door for her safety.

thankyou! i understand and i feel really guilty as it is as i wouldn't want a child feeling unloved but he doesn't cry and he knows it's his bed and he does love going in it just recently for some reason prefers the floor!

@Cosywosy i agree if his room wasn't so big he too would have a toddler bed, his cot wasn a cot bed just a cot so i couldn't change it i had to buy a whole new bed and just opted for a double (a small double) his gate is there because he can open the doors and has stood in his brothers next to me before when i wasn't looking and worried he might do something similar if we were in a deep sleep Blush

Could you put the bed next to the door?

DD2 is 11 now and told me the other day that she likes to sleep on the floor every week or so as it's comfortable. She's done this since we first moved her into a toddler bed. She has a cabin bed with space underneath and has set up a bed of blankets and a pillow underneath. Mind you I have to play 'hunt the DD2 every night'. Will play in a minute. Will she be in bed, under the bed, in with her sister IN the bed, with her sister but on the floor, in the spare room, or somewhere else. I always find her so if there was a fire I'd know where to evacuate her from

Blankets and cushions were my go-to items. They have a fair sized collections of blankets from cheap B&M ones up to John Lewis faux fur (Christmas last year) and make nests and blanket forts which they sleep in if they want to.

Eh? He's self soothing and settling where he chooses on a carpeted floor in a big bedroom full of toys and books. Not passing out exhausted after hours of panicked escape tactics

Are you actually familiar baby gates? Babies can see through them. They're low - not Gringotts Vault style doors!

Butterflyy20 · 15/01/2022 23:18

@Workyticket i guess it's tje same idea as a cot just larger, he's very tired and he doesn't cry at all at the gate or i would go and see to him etc, i don't want to force him in the bed and make him hate it! he sleeps through in the bed once i put him in Smile
