Baby sleeping in own room

Hi all, I have a soon to be 5 month old and considering putting him in the nursery in his own cot. We currently have a next to me crib and he seems to have a fairly good routine. Sleeps around 7, first feed around 11, then 3ish and up around 530am. I'm sure this could be better though! Ha Just wondering when others mums did this. I know NHS says 6 months, but this is only advice X my partner is quite keen for him to do this but I'm still not sure. That's in advance.

6 months is based on research etc and the chance of sids reduces a lot after 6 months.
The lullaby trust has lots of information.

Try having in a cot in your room for the next month if you have the room and then the transition to own room at 6 months will be easier.
Also being further away from your bed may help sleeping a bit longer.

Just out of interest...are you breastfeeding?
I put my daughter in her room at about 3 months old and she slept so much better from day 1. Lots of opinions about why, but someone said my husband and I weren't disturbing so her sleep was better and that she couldn't smell my milk either.
I'd go for it at 5 months as it was amazing for us but each baby is different. Try it and see how you get on x

Thanks for the responses. No I chose to bottle feed. I don't have room in the bedroom for his cot unfortunately but I have been putting him in it everyday when I get ready etc. Unfortunately his nursery currently doubles as our dressing room, looking to move within the year. I'm leaning to yes but then I see stuff on SIDS and it makes me so anxious. My mum said I was in my own room by 4 months, but of course I know times have changed and more research etc.

You won’t be able to sleep as well if you’re anxious. Hold off for a little while- especially- is baby rolling over by themselves yet?
If they can turn back over you’ll feel better.

I didn't even think of the rolling over thing!? First time mum!! Thanks , I think you're right x

No problem, i didn’t sleep well when baby was rolling in one direction but not the other. Plenty of times helping him back onto his back.
Once they can it’s a relief as they’re that bit safer as the can roll back over if they go onto their face.
