Dropping to 1 nap advice!

Hi all, just looking for some advice on my 14mo ds's naps.
For a while his morning nap has gotten later and later, next week he is due to start with a childminder too so I'd like to transition him onto 1 nap a day (he's definitely ready)
Thought I'd try it today so did an early lunch at 11am, but by 11:15am he was falling asleep in his highchair! I put him to bed and aim to get him up after about 2hrs so around 1:30pm.
Those that have gone through this, can I please have tips and advice...

  • should I be putting him down 11-1
  • lunch at 11 like today or lunch after
  • if I get him up at 130 what is a suitable bedtime?

Any advice, tweeks etc welcome. Thank you!

What is his 2 nap schedule like? (Mine was very different for my eldest compared to my current 14mo twins, so the transition was very different)

@TinyTeachr 2 naps it was:

Wake around 6/6:30am
Nap 1 - 9:30 until 10
Nap 2 - 1pm until 2:30pm

However the morning nap he would majorly fight to the point where it would be 10:30 that he would fall asleep.
The 2nd Nap was then becoming too late in the day

I've just got him up so he had about 2hrs 11:30(or just before) until 1:30pm
Hes in a good mood so now will be just seeing if he can make it to bedtime at 630pm 😃

If he is going to sleep before 11.30am then I wouldn't wake him - let him sleep as long as he needs.

As the one nap moves further back (aim for a 12.30 start eventually), then start waking him at 2 ish.

Tbh I’d leave it to the childminder as he’s more likely to power through and not miss the morning nap when there are other kids around doing fun stuff! Mine was on 2 naps until she started full time daycare at 15 months and their routine was 1 nap 1-3pm and she coped fine with that there but often still had the morning nap at home, or in the car, until about 18 months.

Only reason I got him up at 1:30pm is because that's when I'll be picking him up from the childminder to go home, so whatever time he goes for a nap at hers it'll have to end at 1:30pm. I thought 2hrs was a good amount of time, he usually has that amount now but split over 2 naps xx

2 hours is a perfect amount of time. With naps I played around with them to see which worked best. So try 11:30 to 1:30 and if he struggles too much to make it to bed time, switch it to the later afternoon one. My sons now 20 months and sleeps 12 - 2 ish and it works perfectly for him, but I appreciate he's a older so could be different for yours.
