6 month old wide awake after feeds in the night

We have been struggling with sleep recently. Our 6 month old was getting worse and worse waking nearly every hour. We are now following just chill baby sleep.
The routine being
Naps 9-9.40/9.45
12.30-2/2.30
A short nap sometime between 4 and 5 for 20 mins
Bed time 7
We have also been using her self settling methods and it definitely seems to help.
He now sleep longer chunks but we are still finding when he wakes for a feed he is awake for over an hour afterwards. To begin with he’s happy just laying there talking and shouting then this turns to moaning and crying. I think after research this is known as a split night. Any advice on how to solve this? Some nights he will wake for two feeds and therefore this happened twice.
Thanks

What does your feeding look like? Is he breast or bottle fed? Are you feeding him in a darkened room with minimal noise and talk?

Also...I'm sorry to say that he's only 6 months and they change and develop at such a speed that this sort of thing can go on and then turn into something else annoying. I found that not talking to my babies when doing those middle of the night feeds did help. I always kept the lights off....only used a wall socket light which was very dim.

Oh and I'd change them before I'd feed them. So they didn't get woken more by the cold air on their bottoms after feeding.

I’d do a dream feed without waking him.
Feed between 10-11pm before you go to bed.
Lift from cot, feed and lay back down with as little fuss as possible, no lights on and he will probably stay asleep.

Thanks for the help. I keep the room dark and don’t talk to him. He just thinks it’s party time when he's back in his cot after a feed! He is formula fed. Currently having 30 oz in the day and 5 oz at night and started having two small meals a day. Fruit/veg purée I think I’ll give him a dream feed as at least then I know he’s not waking out of hunger in the night.
Thanks for your help!
