Baby can't get comfortable!

My DD is 7.5mo, 6.5mo corrected for being 5 weeks early. She has recently transitioned to sleeping in her big cot from the Snuzpod, which has gone well. After a great start where she seemed super comfortable sleeping on her side, she is now really struggling and will roll around all over the place. She sees to gravitate naturally into a weird position with both feet through the cot bars (despite the breathable mesh I have put in to prevent this) and onto her front. I then push her feet back into the cot so she won't hurt herself and she gets really uncomfortable, turning her head from side to side, grumbling, lifting her head up etc. If left, she will continue to do this until it wakes her and she cries. She cannot yet consistently get back on her back from being on her front, especially when tired. Can anyone help as it's causing her - and our - sleep to be pretty disturbed. Thanks in advance!

I don't mind her on her side. It's the rolling onto her front and then not being able to get back and being super disturbed - last night it started around 11:45 and then went on getting worse and worse until she was properly awake between 2-3:30 and still quite disturbed between 3:30-4.30. Then she woke at 5:45 so I brought her in with me for a cuddle and she slept for a couple of hours really peacefully then... Im exhausted

I'd say give it two weeks and she'll move on to a different stage. In the meantime, coffee.

Theresamagicalplace · 30/12/2021 08:37

Yeah mine did exactly the same when learning to roll. It'll pass in a week or two but it's brutal, you have my sympathy. I left mine sleeping with legs through the bars if that's how he'd sleep, they soon let you know if it gets uncomfortable.

Get rid of the mesh though! Breathable or not it's still a strangulation risk so not advised.

Cindercat · 30/12/2021 19:17

Thanks everyone. Mesh removed, especially since it's not working anyway and she just put her legs over the top of it ha. Will batten down the hatches for a few weeks and wait for it to pass!

Have you got a sleep sack? That definitely helps with the leg issue (not completely but it stops them getting too far through them haha). Good luck! Hope it passes quickly!

Glad to read you have got rid of the mesh bumper as that was going to be my first comment. Use a sleeping bag then your LO won't get tangled up in the bars. Or you could use a travel cot?

My baby had a stage like this too, he would just lie on his front and cry until we turned him over again (despite actually being able to roll - think he just forgot he could do it when he was half asleep).

It did only last a couple of weeks until he got used to it, and now he rolls around happily and sleeps on his front or side.

I'm so sorry to jump on this thread but I don't know what to do. I have joined to post a question and maybe get some advise from other Mummys. I have 4 month old who when he falls asleep, really aggressively rubs his head. It's got to a point when he's drawing blood and it's very distressing. He is fine, I'm in tears and he's smiling back at me totally fine. He had cradle cap, which I used dentinox for, thought it may be that, so stopped using this, along with baby oil and it's still continuing. I don't think it's an irritant , as he does it when he's going to sleep and waking up almost like a soothing thing. He currently has socks on his hands and I trim his nails as much as I can but he sometimes pulls the socks off with his mouth. He does have dry skin on his hear, but I'm scared to put anything on it X If anyone could offer advice I would be so grateful. I've spoken to HV, who just says to stop using stuff on his head, which I have. I don't know what what I can do.

Hi yes she uses sleep sacks but still manages to get her feet through ha. I bought a 6-18m instead of 6-12 yesterday and she did sleep better in that, maybe harder to roll around and stick legs out of cot in a longer sack! Thanks for all the encouragement, glad to know it will pass.

@JoeyEthan I'd start your own thread (not because you're not welcome on this one just because you will get more people seeing your post). It sounds really distressing for you. If he has dry skin on his head, have you tried moisturisers or emollients? I sometimes use petroleum jelly on my baby's dry skin and it seems to help but there is loads you can get. You could always take him to GP if HV isn't offering much advice. I personally wouldn't put socks on his hands - do you have those sleepsuits where the sleeves have built in scratch mits that you can just turn over onto their hands? Really useful and will definitely help.
