Are these night terrors in 16 week old?

So I’m pretty sure my baby is starting the dreaded sleep regression (I’ve been reading the thread - oh god). Waking every hour, fighting sleep etc. She is EBF and usually has a 4 hour sleep, then every 2 hours through the night which I could cope with.

She’s done this crying thing twice now, she’s sobbing and seeming really upset but in a deep sleep, after about a minute she suddenly wakes by screaming her heart out and looking genuinely terrified.. it’s not a hungry cry, it’s horrible. It takes a few minutes to settle and then I boob her and she seems ok.. I can’t see anything online on night terrors on a baby so young.. has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks

Have you given her calpol that day? My baby/toddler used to do this after paracetamol based calpol

I had this a few times with my baby around that age... she’d be whimpering in her sleep then suddenly a blood curdling scream like I’d never heard. I never got to the bottom of it and like you I couldn’t find anything about night terrors or nightmares, but presume it was something like that. It happened two or three times but not since. Maybe keep an eye and get her checked out if it keeps happening though in case it’s some kind of pain causing it

Sounds like she’s is in a pain and the pain is waking her up.

Check for the usual like colic, reflux, teething and her temperature. Is she pulling at her ears or showing signs of a UTI?

If nothing obvious and it continues then book an appointment with the GP

My daughter did this, she does occasionally now too. I n we vet got to the bottom of it, but I know what you mean by the terrified look.

Have you heard of Lyndsey Hookway? She's a sleep specialist, she's written some books and she's on insta too.

Just read what the previous poster said and my daughter did have a UTI when she was 11 weeks. Maybe you should book an appointment with the GP

My DS also did this round about that age but was very hard to wake to stop the crying! He was learning to roll at the time and weirdly it all stoppef once he conquered that. He is now learning to crawl and sleep is disrupted with this issue once again!
