Large tonsils

My 3yr old seems to get large tonsils very often which is causing him so snore a lot during the night. Gp says it’s nothing to worry about, although I’m considering having them removed.
Anyone else had the same issue?

DS had this and had his removed at 4.5 yrs. He got regular tonsillitis but it was the disruption to his sleep due to their size affecting his breathing that was the reason they offered to remove them. Ask for an ENT referral. We were actually referred because he had repeated tonsillitis and massively swollen glands for a few weeks, but once we saw the consultant he said that they were huge and needed to come out. The GP was never bothered about their size.

ffscovid thank you for getting back to me. I will be asking for a referral as they keep on getting swollen and within 6m he’s had tonsillitis twice. How was your DC after having them removed (any pain? Time for recovery?) hope you don’t mind me asking.

@Mumofoneandanotherontheway - he was ok. A lot of pain immediately afterwards (screamed solidly for a few hours) and he was quite uncomfortable for the first week or so, but then he was fine and was able to start school a couple of weeks later.
It's not an operation without risk, but in his case it was absolutely the right thing to do.

Yes, my daughter had this and they got so large it caused sleep apnea. They took them out a week after her 2nd birthday.
