Advice on sleep training methods and short naps

Hi guys,

Dad here to a lovely 6 month old girl.

Having some difficulties with sleep. Our little one SOMETIMES drifts off on her own but more often that not, she fusses when put down (for both naps and bed time).

Now that she is 6 months old I feel it might be time ti try sleep training. Does anyone have any tips on which approach to take?

Also, she doesn't nap for more than 30/40 mins. On occasion she will do over an hour but it's only a couple of times a week.

Any help or advice is much appreciated

I've had some success extending my 6 month olds naps by extending the wake times a bit.

Yesterday she was up at 6am

Slept 9.30-11.40
And then again 2.45-3.30

Bed at 6 and slept till 6 this morning
She's been asleep a hour now ..so down again at 9.30

This will all go to shit when I have school runs again 🤣

So your little ones wake window is 3 hours?

I’d recommend Lucy Wolf’s sleep solution book. She has really clear advice for all stages that is compassionate to parents and babies and worked well for us.

Mine is 6 months and can be up for three hours at a time. Being put down to sleep just doesn't work here though so I don't bother it just distresses both of us. All naps are out and about in sling or contact.

Seems to be working at the moment for us.
She goes down in her cot in the morning now
White noise and dummy
Have a older child so I hope for buggy naps in the afternoon
When we have school runs she tends to do 3 shorter naps as I can't stop her falling asleep in the buggy in the morning

My son did this. I did the pick up put down method to get him to go to sleep on his own and it worked well. The advice is always to put them down sleepy but awake but my son would cry so much if he wasn't carried or rocked to sleep. He was 6 months also when I did the sleep training and it helped him sleep much longer at night too. Look up pick up put down.

We sort of do that at the min but when we put her down she will start to cry all over again.
