Sleep all day awake all night why????

I just don't understand. My 5 week old sleeps soundly all day- no problem. However come the dreaded night time after the first feed around 1am he is so unsettled and I'm unable to put him back in his cot. He's on hipp reflux milk with gaviscon as I can hear the reflux sometimes and I think he's struggling with wind. I feel I have tried everything- infocol, dentinox, colief, changed the milk, massage, raised the cot etc etc but nothing woks. I can be up for over 3 hours most nights then my husband takes over around 5 when I w had enough!!

Anyone experienced this. Any other suggestions which might settle him more at night? I need sleep!

You aren't alone. My 7 week old has silent reflux and the nights are often hard. I found gaviscon and thickened formula wasn't working so have only just started omezrepole and hoping it will work.
We do all the things you have mentioned. Also try to feed her slowly and stop to burp her after every ounce. A dummy and white noise sometimes helps settle her.
Now I tend to go to bed around 9pm, sometimes 8, and leave baby with my husband. He will do the last feed of the day and bring her up to bed. This optimises how much sleep I can get before she wakes up in the morning hours. I have mentally just resigned myself to the fact that she might need held upright for the rest of the night and remind myself that it won't be like this forever. My husband takes over again around 6am so I can usually get an extra hour more before our toddler wakes up.
Now DD is nearing 8 weeks, she is going longer stretches between feeds so some nights she isn't waking until 4 and this really helps. Hang in there!

Wow this sounds exactly like us. We start omeprazole today as the doctor needed to order it in so hoping it'll help him. This is what happened last night

1.15- 2.15 fed then slept on me
2.15-3 unsettled
3 fed 3.20 asleep on me put back in cot
3.50 awake with wind
4.05 Fed and awake until I swapped with husband at 5!

I'm wondering if I'm feeding him too much and so he's unsettled although he'll happily take the milk! He had 2 x 5oz from 1am - 5am!!

What milk are you on? Do you still use anything to help for trapped wind?

We have silent reflux, we just switched to the Kendamil organic formula from Hipp and it has made an instant difference, I would really recommend!

@newmama721 what was the reason for change? I'm tempted to change. Normal hipp isn't agreeing with him, the reflux one seems to be better so sticking with that at the minute but thinking to switching to the kendamil x

My 5 week old breastfeed baby sleeps well in the day but not so much in the night. I'm thinking of switching him to formula don't think he's getting enough from the breast during the night. He will fall asleep on me then when I try put him down he will wake up.

We switched as she had such bad reflux, even on the Hipp. It's def better on kendamil organic

5 week olds don't yet have their circadian rhythms developed, it's not anything you're doing, not lack of milk supply etc, it just takes time.

Sounds normal but I had silent reflux twins, omeprazole really helped but be aware it's dosed be weight, so when they gain they need to be recalibrated.

Get a cot wedge, all feeds upright, swirl don't shake the bottles if ff, keep upright for 20 minutes after a feed.

We are using Hipp now, find it slightly better than the SMA we were using before. Wonder if it's worth trying Kendamil. Although with trying thickened formula, different normal formula, gaviscon and now omeprazole I don't imagine always a changing is good for her tummy.
So far the omeprazole seems to have made her calmer and happier during the day but still having bad nights. It's only been a few days with it and GP said it could take longer to see full difference so will keep going.
I was thinking about getting a wedge, does anyone know if they are safe?
DD had her 8week vaccinations yesterday. She was drowsy all day and I was really hoping it would continue overnight. But no, by 1am the drowsiness had worn off and we were back to her being on my shoulder.
