4 week old, congested only at night

Hi all

My 4 week old DS is really struggling to sleep at night as he sounds so congested and ends up waking himself up.

I'm at a loss of why or what to do because he sounds fine in the day time and if he falls asleep in my arms at night he doesn't sound congested either. It's just when I put him down he sounds bad so I'm living on next to no sleep and really struggling.

I've got a vicks humidifier coming soon hopefully that will help. Any suggestions as to why it's just at night? Sat here in tears feeling like a zombie Blush

What does he sleep in? Can you tilt the top half of his bed/next to me so he's at an angle like when in your arms?

We have a similar issue. We use the nasel spray them the nasel sucker and try suck out as much as possible before bed. Seems to work so far. You can get it from boots online xx

Don’t think vicks is suitable for young babies

How warm / cold is your bedroom ?

Does he have a lot of soft things in the bedroom? They can trigger allergies sometimes. You could try a room beta air filter and if it is allergies it will help. You can get small size tabletop ones that are pretty good for a bedroom. Hang in there.

I was coming on to say dust mite allergy. Sounds exactly like DS.

Has reflux been ruled out? My DD was congested at night due to reflux.

The only thing he'll sleep in is his pram at the moment. His bedroom furniture is currently being put together and moving into his room at the weekend due to renovations. Currently in the lounge.

His pram is slightly tilted anyway but maybe not enough? I've tried saline spray and I've put a bowl of snuffle baby vapour in the room but not really helping.

The humidifier is coming tomorrow so I'll see if that works. I'm not sure he has reflux as he keeps down all his feeds? If it wasn't for this congestion he'd sleep really well, so frustrating and horrible to hear him struggling Sad

Should also add he was really struggling just now and screaming, so picked him up and wrapped him in his blanket and he's now laying in my arms. He fell asleep almost immediately and doesn't sound congested at all. So confused?

He likely needs to be tilted to allow the mucus to run down his nasal passage. He might just like cuddles too...it's bloody cold tonight. Dose with him in your arms in bed...I know it's not the 'done' thing but it's survival. Just make sure you're propped up and no chance of slippage/duvet covering.

@Becky199327 Doesn’t need to be sick to have reflux, can be silent reflux. My DD had silent reflux first which turned into full blown projectile style vomiting at around 6 weeks.
