How to stop baby climbing out of cot?

DS is beginning to look like he might be able to climb out of his cot soon. What do we do about this? He's only 10 months! It's a long way from the top rail to the floor so I dread to think what could happen.

Have you tried putting him in a baby sleepingbag? Failing that, barbed wire!!

Yes he sleeps in a grobag - but we do also use it as a safe place to plonk him during the day for odd moments e.g. going to the loo!

I know it sounds obvious, but have you set the mattress level to the cot's lowest level? Ours has 3 levels and the lowest is quite low.

I think I just scattered cushions and bean bags on the floor next to the cot at this stage with my kids - you cant stop them falling but you can make it a whole lot comfier.

Is he really tall enough to get a leg over - do check the base is on the lowest setting. Personally I'd try the sleeping bag option first (less leverage with legs and no extra bedding to pile up) or would a mosquito/cat type net on the top for a few nights deter him ?

Just a thought. Dh and I are worriers! So when ds started looking like he might take a leap out of his cot we brought a load of crash mats!! (like the ones you have in gym)

It cost us about £40 but well worth it. Ds did jump out of his cot but was fine. They take some of the impact away.

Razor wire?

When our ds started jumping out we just lowered the side to make it more bedlike, easier for him to get out and to prevent him throwing himself off the top. Yes, it meant that a few nights we spent repeatedly putting him back in his cot before he went to sleep but he would have been doing that anyway even if the side was up.
