My 9mo dd is a snuggle freak. Now that she is mobile, she worms her way to the corner of the cot and jams her head against the bumper - this is the thinnest I can find, and I can breathe through it easily, but I know this is not the best of situations. Removing the bumper leads to a bumped head, arms through the bars, and lots of waking.

And now, to add to my worries, she will not sleep without a blanket to rub against her face. Again, this is a blanket I can breathe through easily, and I tuck it in hard so she can't get it too far up, but I don't like it. I should add that she has a sleeping bag, but needs the blanket as well because it is cold. And she won't do without it now even if I put an oil radiator in her room; she won't accept a muslin instead, or a little fluffy toy comforter. She has an addictive personality!

What to do? Go through the pain barrier of weaning her off the blankie, or leave things as they are. I believe babies are able to regulate their temp when they turn one year old. She is already able to pull covers over her or push them off at will.

if she is old enough to pull the bedclothes away from her face or move her head, she should be fine, but I know it is scary. Just keep an eye on her.

If you're worried is there anyway you can cut the blanket in half or something so that it's not so big and therefore the worry about her getting trapped under it is less likely? Having said that, at 9 months providing it's not a big heavy double bed size blanket I'd have been ok with that with my DD (but that's just me)

If you are really concerned about the cot bumper you could get one of these, they are Australian but if you Google you should find a stockist that delivers to the UK. TBH I took the bumper off DS's cot at around 8mo after finding him one morning with his head under it. After a few nights of cot-rattling he has been fine without it.

Not sure about the blankie but if it is thin enough to breathe through then I'm sure it will be OK as long as her room's not too warm anyway. Or, like Ginger suggests , you could cut a strip off it so she can snuggle against that?

I knew I had come to the right place!

Thanks all who have replied so far, and please keep the ideas coming, ladies. I particularly like the idea of cutting the comfort blankie into smaller pieces.
