How long can your 5 month old stay awake between naps in the day?

Just curious really - mine seems to still not be able to manage very long (90 mins max.) before she's rubbing her eyes and getting ratty.

DS could only do 90 mins at this age too. Used to go in 2hr cycles -- 90 mins awakw then 30 mins asleep!

The same with ds. It makes me wonder how he stayed awake so long when he was a wee baby.

My nearly five month old charge does two hours, eg 7am awake 9-11am nap, 1-3pm nap, 4.30ish half hour nap, 7pm bed, 11pm dreamfeed

Obviously I'm flexible and if he wakes earlier/later the times adjust.

DS3 at that age could do anything from 60-120 minutes.

He's 6 1/2 months and now does anything from 1 1/2hrs up to about 4hrs!

So nice to see this thread. My LO does up to 2 hours awake max!

My SILs baby pratically stays awake all day, and she was saying there was something wrong with my son..

He wakes at 7am, naps 9am-9:45, naps 11:45-12:30, naps 1:30-2:45 and then last one at about 4:30pm. Bed at 7pm

He also still has a feed at 10:30pm.

He is a happy contented baby, now shame the same cannot be said about hers.....

Snap! My LO is 5 months tomorrow and really struggles past 2 hours. Her naps are only about 30 mins long though (unless we are out and about in the pushchair when she seems to go for longer) following the same sort of pattern as you Clur79. I've tried getting her to nap for longer, hoping the awake period would be longer, but this doesn't seem to work!

Glad to see this appears normal!!!

God, I'd love her to manage 2 hours, specially in the morning when I;m trying to get DD1 ready and DD2 is howling and crabby long before we need to walk to pre-school. in fact in the mornings, it's only about an hour before she needs a nap. She does have a good pattern of naps though - roughly, one short one in the morning, one long one (can be up to 3 hours ) over lunchtime and then the afternoons vary widely - but I have a real problem if she wakes from her afternoon nap at 4pm - there's no way I can string ehr out until 7, and she's knackered by 5.30pm

Sorry about typos - she's howling now - I suspect tiredness.....

So glad to hear all these 5mo are nearly all the same

ds wakes at around 6 am (after not sleeping through - ever!!!) Stays awake until the school run, approx 8.45 am (He has no choice here, is usually v grumpy by then!)

Always wakes after 45 mins, but as he is in the pushchair can sometimes get him to go back off. The longest he seems to manage is 1.5 hrs.

Stays awake until next school run at 12.45 pm and will sleep for any length of time!! Changes daily (what a wonderful routine we have )

Will not go back to sleep again until bed at 6.30 pm (bathed at 6.00 pm) If he does have a later nap, he will not go to sleep.
O the joys!

So funny how similar they all are, and yet so different. DD (5 and a half months) is really ready for first nap an hour and a half after first waking (so really only time to get dressed and have breakfast!) she has a half hour nap then can manage 2 -2 and a half before another half hour at lunchtime, then 2 -3 hours before a long nap (1-2 hours) in the afternoon, then an hour and a half and she's ready for bed. Having said that, she's nearly six months now and it's feeling like it's all change. She's less tired in the evenings now so maybe it's time to drop one of her daytime naps - jsut when I thought we'd got them cracked!
